🪖 1. MILITARY JOURNEY
Proud USAF Civil Engineer and PRIME Base Emergency Engineer Force (PRIME BEEF) member. I did 3 tours in Iraq. Baghdad, Kirkuk and Balad. Last tour in Balad was with the 20th Engineer Brigade out of Ft. Bragg building Patrol Bases, Combat Out Post for 82nd, 101st and 25th. The last combat tour was to Niger, Africa to build an Air Base in the middle of the Sahel Desert. It was an engineer’s dream job.
🏍️ 2. LOVE OF RIDING
My dad was a Harley rider, I rode since I was a little kid. Learned how to ride on his 1984 Ironhead Sportster, which he still owns and rides. To me, riding means freedom.
🦅 3. FINDING CVMA®
I knew of the CVMA when I was stationed at Holloman AFB, NM while I was prospecting for an MC. That didn’t workout. When I retired and moved back to NC, I wanted a connection with other military members, I had just lost that after serving 24 years. It was a tough transition to say the least. At the time, I just wanted to ride motorcycles, drink b**r and have a good time. For the first 6 months I came to meetings and just sat outside and drank b**r out of my saddlebags. If you would have told me when I first joined that I’d be sitting at the table one day, I would have told you that you were crazy. Now, I find myself serving a greater purpose within the organization.
🤝 4. VETS HELPING VETS
To me “Vets Helping Vets” in its simplest form is just being an ear to listen or a shoulder to lean on. It’s camaraderie. I think a lot of times people forget, we are veterans too. You help me and I help you just by showing up, making a call or text to check in on someone or sitting down to have a b**r.
🛣️ 5. YOUR FAVORITE RIDE
Hwy 58 Okinawa, Japan is probably the best ride along the coast of Okinawa. The most beautiful scenery and crystal blue waters you will ever see. I was the Sgt at Arms for American Legion Riders then. We rode 150 miles every weekend on that little island. Second best would be riding theTaibaek Mountain range in South, Korea during the fall and riding over Mt. Seoraksan all the way to the DMZ coast.
💭 6. BEYOND THE BIKE
When I was stationed in Texas and Oklahoma I immersed myself in the Native culture. Spent a lot of time with the Comanche and Ponca tribes and was adopted, the “Native” way by a Ponca family. I learned the songs and the war dances and performed ceremonies and Pow wow and became a Champion War Dancer in Oklahoma. My heritage is actually Mexican and Panamanian.
♥️ 7. WHY CVMA®?
The CVMA is like any other organization. You get out of it, what you put into it. I want them to know that if you miss what we had in the military and want to ride motorcycles with your brothers and sisters, this is the place for you.
⭐ BONUS: WHAT CVMA® GAVE ME
Camaraderie, it’s what I missed the most. When you are in, you have it without even knowing it. You could say, you take it for granted. Once you are out, it’s the first thing you notice is gone.
