NCILJC filed final tax documents in December, and this page will be deleted within the week. Though we've closed, the work for justice continues.

We're very grateful to Victory United Methodist Church for hosting us in their parsonage for the last year and a half.

Yesterday was our last day as tenants, and vacating the parsonage effectively marks the end of North Carolina Immigration Law & Justice Center.

We will distribute our remaining assets and submit our final paperwork to the IRS in the next few days.

We are grateful to so many community partners and could not possibly list them all here but we will tag as many as we can.

For now, as Gloria Anzaldúa wrote:

“Caminante, no hay puentes, se hace puentes al andar."

(Voyager, there are no bridges, one builds them as one walks.)

As board members, we often never saw the day-to-day work of our attorneys and office staff. But as we proceed with closing the organization and safely archiving our files, we've come across a deep and often moving collection of client files, family photos, handwritten letters, and other records.

This process serves as a powerful reminder of the remarkable work our office has accomplished over the years.

This is Ceci's story.

"Ceci is a phenomenal young woman, who was raised by phenomenal Farm Labor organizers," states Donna Akuamoah, site attorney for Fayetteville Justice for Our Neighbors. "She has singlehandedly referred over 20 clients to us. Ceci is the future." "I like to help people," Ceci answers simply. At only....

The board of North Carolina Immigration Law & Justice Center, in light of ongoing financial difficulties, has decided to dissolve the organization.

This decision was made after only after we thoroughly considered other options. We have already secured continuity of care for our remaining clients, and we promise to close the organization responsibly and ethically.

We are tremendously grateful to our donors, supporters, partners, and to the clients who gave purpose to our work.

In solidarity,

Joshua James,
Board Chair

How about some good news this ?

One of our clients has been approved for U.S. citizenship! This milestone wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of our former staff attorney, Yvanne Vaughn of YMV Law who carried the case forward after we began to scale back capacity.

The naturalization process can be long, arduous, and expensive. That’s why we’re working to rebuild our capacity: because cost should never stand in the way of someone’s dream of citizenship.

We’re committed to providing affordable, compassionate legal representation but we can only do it with your support.
