Skill Spotlight: Leading a Group
Toastmasters is known for speeches, but members don't only practice speaking. They also get opportunities to lead.
This week's Skill Spotlight is Leading a Group.
Some of those opportunities happen during regular club meetings. Members can lead the meeting, facilitate Table Topics, lead the evaluation portion, or take responsibility for other parts of the meeting.
Then there are club officer roles. Officers work together to make decisions, plan club activities, support members, and help the club reach its goals.
And leadership doesn't stop at the club level.
Members may serve as area or division directors, organize speech contests, help plan training events or conferences, serve on committees, and take on other district responsibilities.
These experiences give members practice working with people with different perspectives and experiences, making decisions, delegating responsibilities, communicating expectations, responding when plans change, and helping a group stay focused on what they're trying to accomplish.
Those same skills can be useful when leading a project at work, coordinating volunteers, organizing a community event, or leading a team.
