His name was Marius.

He was my son. He was 17. And losing him to su***de changed everything about the way I see people, pain, families and even the world around me.

MMF didn't start because I wanted to run a nonprofit.

Trust me, this was never the plan.

It started because after Marius died, I couldn't stop thinking about what happens BEFORE a family gets that phone call.

What did we miss?

What could we have known?

What could someone have taught us?

What might have helped him?

And what can we do now for another family?

That's where so much of this work comes from.

For the next 15 days, we're going to get a little more personal on this page.

I hope you'll come along with us.

๐Ÿ’š If you would like to help us end the stigma, please consider donating at mariusmaximusfoundation.org. Every dollar goes right back into the non-profit and into providing free services.

I want to know something about the people who follow this page.

Why are YOU here?

Maybe you've lost someone.

Maybe you've struggled yourself.

Maybe you work in mental health, recovery, education, or social services.

Maybe you just believe people deserve a little more kindness.

Or maybe Facebook showed you our page, and you have absolutely no idea how you got here. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Whatever brought you here, tell us.

We'd really like to know who's on the other side of this screen.

Su***de is frequently discussed in numbers.

Numbers matter.

But numbers don't tell you who someone was.

Today we'd like to put people back behind those statistics.

If you've lost someone to su***de and feel comfortable sharing, tell us about them.

Not how they died.

Tell us how they lived.

Thank you, Becky S., for sharing Abbie with us.

Tonight, check on somebody.

Not because you think they're suicidal.

Not because they posted something concerning.

Just because they're your person.

Send the text.

Make the call.

And maybe don't ask only, "You good?"

Give them enough room to tell you if they aren't.

Sometimes connection is prevention.

๐Ÿ’š If you'd like to help us keep creating those connections: mariusmaximusfoundation.org
