Community Action changes lives every day. Behind every number is a person, a family, a story. 🧡

At STEPS, our impact goes beyond statistics. It’s individuals finding employment, families securing safe housing, children building strong foundations through early education, and survivors finding safety, support, and healing.

These numbers represent lives changed, opportunities created, and communities strengthened through the power of Community Action. Thank you to everyone who helps us continue moving lives forward every day.

May is Community Action Month! At STEPS, we’re proud to stand alongside a network of Community Action Agencies working every day to create opportunities, strengthen families, and build brighter futures.

Because of this work, thousands of lives are impacted each year through essential services and support that help individuals and families thrive. These numbers represent real people, real progress, and real change in our communities.

Together, we’re moving lives forward. 💛

Denim Day 2026. đź‘–đź’™ Thank you to everyone who stood with us in raising awareness, sparking important conversations, and supporting survivors.

Every pair of jeans worn sends a clear message: no means no—always. 🚫 We’re grateful to be part of a community that shows up, speaks out, and stands together. The work continues!

Denim Day is coming, and we’re calling on our community to show up in a simple but powerful way. 💙👖

On Wednesday, April 29th, we’re inviting our community to take a stand with us. For just $5, you can wear your favorite denim to work and help support survivors right here in our community.

All proceeds will go directly to Madeline’s House, helping provide critical services to those impacted by sexual violence and domestic violence.

Denim Day is coming. 💙👖

As part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, we’re joining communities across the country to raise awareness and stand with survivors. What began as a movement to challenge harmful myths has grown into a powerful reminder: there is never an excuse for sexual violence.

In the days leading up to Denim Day, we’ll be sharing ways you can get involved, show your support, and help spread awareness.

Mark your calendar, wear your denim, and stand with survivors.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. At STEPS, Inc., we stand with survivors and believe in creating safe, supportive communities where everyone can thrive.

This month, and every month, we are committed to raising awareness, supporting prevention efforts, and ensuring individuals and families know they are not alone.

If you or someone you know needs support, help is available through Madeline’s House and other local resources. 💜

Together, we can continue to listen, learn, and work toward a safer future for all.

Don’t forget! Our next Israel Hill Community Meeting is this Monday, February 16th. 📢🏠

STEPS is gathering community input on a proposed housing development west of Farmville on 51 acres off Layne Street. The vision is to create a thoughtfully planned community that honors the historic legacy of Israel Hill while helping meet local housing needs.

Options under consideration include affordable single-family homes, senior housing, rental units, townhomes, duplexes, and potentially an early childhood education center, community space, and green areas.

đź“… Monday, February 16
⏰ 4:30–6:00 p.m.
📍 Woodland Community Center, Cobb Street, Farmville

These meetings are open to everyone. Your voice matters — we hope you’ll come share your thoughts and be part of the conversation!

Each year, communities across the nation conduct a one-night Point-in-Time (PIT) Count of people experiencing homelessness. This count helps determine federal funding for local homeless programs, plan services based on community needs, measure progress in reducing homelessness, and identify strengths and gaps in the current homelessness assistance system.

This year, our Point-in-Time Count will take place on Thursday, January 28th, 2026. Anyone who is homeless on this night with no place to stay should be counted and offered help.

At any time, whether on the night of the count or at any point during the year, individuals experiencing homelessness can call the STEPS Homeless Housing Line at 1-855-955-5501 for assistance with emergency shelter. Our region includes Amelia, Buckingham, Cumberland, Lunenburg, Nottoway, and Prince Edward Counties.

If you are experiencing homelessness and need help, call 1-855-955-5501.
