A little paper. A lot of tradition. And one very cool ornament.

Join guest instructor Ann Szilagyi for our first workshop at Touchstone by the Falls and learn to make a jezyk — a traditional Polish paper ornament also known as a Polish porcupine, star urchin, or hedgehog.

No experience needed. This beginner-friendly workshop is all about learning the tradition, trying something new, and leaving with a finished ornament of your own.

This is what a school day can look like at Touchstone.

This week, we welcomed 65 students, educators, and families from Commonwealth Charter Academy for a day of making, demonstrations, exploring our studios, and a great conversation about art, education, creative careers, and what it means to be an artist.

And somehow, October gave us a pretty perfect day for it. ☀️

Thanks to everyone from CCA who came out to make, learn, ask questions, and spend the day with us.

A pretty good day for a field trip. 🌿

Today, Touchstone staff and interns headed to Fallingwater to see the installation created by Vancouver artist Mike Seymour during the 2026 Fallingwater + Touchstone Artist Residency—and for some of our interns, experience their first tour of Fallingwater.

Mike’s beautiful ceramic work grew from time spent at Fallingwater, Touchstone, and throughout the surrounding Laurel Highlands. It’s a wonderful example of what can happen when artists, places, and partners come together.

And we get to do it again. 👀
The Fallingwater + Touchstone Artist Residency returns in 2027. Stay tuned—details and application information are coming soon.
