It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of K9 Nomad.
Nomad was more than a dog, he was a partner, a teammate, and a professional Search and Rescue K9 who served with unwavering dedication. During his career, Nomad was deployed on multiple Search and Rescue operations, including disaster response deployments and joint operations in support of federal and regional partners. His work included cadaver detection missions conducted alongside agencies such as the FBI, where his skill, reliability, and focus were critical in high-stakes environments.
Most notably, Nomad deployed in support of Hurricane Helene disaster response operations, where he worked long hours in difficult conditions to assist in recovery efforts and bring answers to families during an incredibly challenging time.
Off mission, Nomad was steady, loyal, and deeply bonded to his handler. In the field, he was driven, composed, and mission-focused. He was a K9 that could be trusted when it mattered most.
We honor Nomad not only for the work he performed, but for the standard he set for Search and Rescue K9s and handlers alike. His legacy lives on in the missions completed, the lessons learned, and the lives he touched.
Rest easy, Nomad. You served with honor. You are missed, and you will not be forgotten.
