All From the Lord

Deuteronomy‬ ‭8‬‬:‭17‬-‭18‬ ‭NIV11‬‬
17 You may say to yourself, “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.” 18 But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.

It is easy to get caught up in personal accolades when we receive a promotion or an award. We tend to pat ourselves on the back for a job well done. There is nothing wrong with being proud of our accomplishments, but we must always give glory and praise to the Lord for it is from Him that we receive our ability to do great things.
All our accomplishments stem from the ability, wisdom, and courage given to us by God. We must always to remember to give Him the glory at all times for without Him we can do nothing. Praise the Lord!

Farmington UMC Weekly News! -

You might remember me sharing in worship a few weeks ago about “bridge events”-- these are events that the church creates to build a bridge out to the community and we have one coming up. Our largest bridge event of the year is Trunk or Treat, and it is in just 2 weeks!

If Only

Matthew‬ ‭7‬‬:‭7‬ ‭NIV11‬‬
7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

As I was walking and praying this morning, I said, "If only I didn't have brain fog I could write better devotionals." As I said it I thought of how often we use the words, "if only". If only I had enough time I would do more. If only I had more money I would be set. If only I had a different job I could make a difference. I would guess many of our days contain a few "if only" statements, but should they?
In today's verse Jesus says if we ask it will be given, if we seek we will find, and if we knock the door will be opened. All that we need is available for us if we take action. I asked the Lord to clear my brain fog and guide me in writing today and He answered, but I had to ask.
We often lament about what we don't have or what we can't do, but how often to we ask the Lord to guide us, help us be content with what we have, and show us how we can make a difference. We have to ask, seek, and knock. At times we have to do the hard thing and wait for the Lord to answer and when He answers we may not like His response, but it is always the best option.
If you have said, "if only" lately, stop right now and ask the Lord to help you. Take action and ask, seek, and knock; doing this will take of any "if only" we have if we trust in the Lord and do what He says.

We had the best time hosting students for pizza, s’mores, a devotional, and glow kickball. Big thanks to our youth for bringing so many friends and all of our volunteers! 🙏🏻🔥🍕

Be Present

Psalms‬ ‭71‬‬:‭5‬ ‭NIV11‬‬
5 For you have been my hope, Sovereign LORD, my confidence since my youth.

This morning I witnessed over 100 high school students coming together before school to participate in FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes). This gathering isn't just for athletes, but for anyone who has a desire to know the Lord. It is lead by students for students.
The young lady leading this morning was living out today's verse. The Lord is her confidence, her guide, and her strength. She shared the words God had given her with assurance and grace. I know the Holy Spirit was present there this morning.
In order for our youth to have confidence from their youth, we have to support our youth ministries. You are never too old to help share Christ among the youth. Check with your local High School or Junior High and see if they have an FCA program, offer to provide breakfast for them. Volunteer with your church's children and youth programs, you may be the role model a child or youth needs to change their lives. Just be present at youth activities, they just need someone who cares in the their lives.
It is my desire for everyone to be able to say the Lord has been their confidence since their youth. It is our responsibility to help the children and youth experience Christ. What can you do to be present in your local youths' lives?

Thankful for Others

1 Thessalonians‬ ‭1‬‬:‭2‬ ‭NIV11‬‬
2 We always thank God for all of you and continually mention you in our prayers.

In today's verse, Paul is thanking the Thessalonians for all they have done as a result of hearing the Word and believing it. Paul thanked God for them and often mentioned them in his prayers.
What a beautiful way to acknowledge the good others do, thanking God and praying for them.
Think about someone in your life who has embodied God's Word and love and expressed it through their care for you and others. What would your life had been like if they hadn't believed and responded to God's call? We are touched daily by people who are living and loving out their faith. We need to thank them, thank God, and be praying for them.
Have you thanked God for the believers He has and is sending into your life? Do you pray for perseverance and strengthen for them? Pick one person today who has helped you in some way; first tell them thank you, then thank God for them, and finally pray for them as they carry out the work God has given them. May we all strive to be faithful followers who are the hands and feet of Christ, devoted to helping others.

Forgive As He Forgives

Micah‬ ‭7‬:‭18‬ NIV
18 Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy.

What a joy this verse is; God delights to show mercy! God does not stay angry forever. He pardons sin and forgives our transgressions. Hallelujah! How can one not overflow with joy and love when we read these verses.
We are not so quick to forgive and some take pride in holding onto their anger. A women on the news recently said, “I’m a Christian, but I could never forgive them.” That statement is a contradiction. In Matthew 6:14-15 Jesus tells us that when we forgive our Father forgives us and when we don’t forgive others, God will not forgive us. God freely forgives us when we seek forgiveness, when we do our part.
Does forgiveness have to happen overnight? No, it may take years. Years to work through the pain, the hurt, the loss, time to let healing occur, time to lean on God and trust Him to deal with the offender as He sees fit. Never to forgive should not be in a Christian’s vocabulary because it isn’t in God’s. We can say I can’t right now or I am slowing working on it, but never means that we are not doing what God asks of us.
Never say never when it comes to forgiveness. Seek God’s help, let Him work in and through you to heal and be able to forgive. Delight in His mercy by being obedient. God forgives our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us (Matthew 6:12).

Take Heart

John 16:33 NIV
33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

When Jesus was arrested the disciples scattered. They were lost and afraid. What they had thought would happen didn't, Jesus wasn't going to be their earthly king. It wasn't that they didn't have faith, they were just unfocused and had their own concerns.
There will be dark times when it seems as if God isn't hearing us, there will be fear, pain, or grief; but we must experience these things just as the disciples did so we can see that God is more than just blessings. He is our ALL. If we trust Him to get us through the dark time, the we will have a faith that can never be shaken or unfocused! If things seem a little dark right now, take a few minutes and focus on Christ! The darkness will begin to fade!
