The UCSF Department of Emergency Medicine welcomes medical students interested in completing a 6-week summer fellowship in our emergency department. This fellowship is open to medical students who are underrepresented in medicine (URM) and have completed their 1st year in medical school.
The goal of this fellowship is to foster interest in emergency medicine to URM students by providing individualized mentorship, hands-on clinical experience, research and academic opportunities. Our aim is to recruit students from diverse backgrounds and to provide them with clinical and research experience that will help them develop into advocates for social change. This program is a pipeline program that is committed to increasing diversity in emergency medicine.

More information:
Recently, UConn School of Medicine’s Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA) met with Connecticut State Senator Saud Anwar, a Pulmonary and Critical Care physician. Senator Anwar wrote a powerful and moving letter to Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont on June 15, 2020, in the wake of the death of George Floyd, asking him to declare racism a public health emergency. Senator Anwar introduced Bill SB00055 on January 8, 2021 that would formally make this resolve and establish a Commission to advise the legislative branch here in Connecticut on issues of racism and public health going forward. Watch his recent Facebook video (link in prior post) discussing the proposal!
