On Labor Day, we recognize and appreciate the dedication of the countless people who work tirelessly to build our communities, keep them safe, and make them stronger.

The National Center on Shaken Baby Syndrome is especially grateful for the doctors, nurses, legal professionals, law enforcement, educators, social workers, and healthcare professionals who work every day to support children and families and keep babies safe. Your knowledge, compassion, and commitment help provide children with a safe and healthy start in life.

Our office will be closed today in observance of the holiday, but we’ll be back tomorrow to continue our work to prevent shaken baby syndrome.

This World Breastfeeding Week, 2026, the National Center on Shaken Baby Syndrome joins other organizations around the world in advocating for health systems that provide quality breastfeeding support and improve health outcomes for mothers and newborns.

According to the joint statement released this year by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organization (WHO), breastfeeding:

💜provides infants with essential nutrition

💜increases immunity

💜helps protect against serious illness

💜supports cognitive development

Happy Pioneer Day! Wishing our Utah community a safe and meaningful holiday as we celebrate the courage and resilience of those who came before us. Our office will be closed for the day, but we will be back on Monday to continue our work, keeping babies safe from harm.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently issued a recall on TOMY Boon PIVOT Toddler Tower Kids Kitchen Step Stools. The recalled toddler towers can tip over while in use, posing a risk of serious injury and death, due to fall hazards.

The recalled toddler towers were sold online at Target.com, Amazon.com, and Babylist.com from January 2023 through June 2026 for around $150. The metal and plastic tower stools were sold in gray and white and measure about 22 inches wide, 23 inches deep, and 35 inches tall. “Boon” is visible along the top rail, and a warning label is visible along the side of the standing platform.

Consumers should stop using the recalled tower stools immediately and store them away from children until repair. Contact TOMY for a stabilizing repair part and installation instructions at https://us.tomy.com/contact-us. The firm will mail the free repair parts directly to consumers.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently issued a recall on Joolz Aer2 Car Seat Adapters for Joolz Aer 2 Strollers. The recalled car seat adapters can fail to properly attach to the stroller, which may allow the car seat to fall, posing a risk of serious injury from a fall hazard.

The recalled adapters were sold at Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom, and specialty stores nationwide, and online at joolz.com, bloomingdales.com, nordstrom.com, and amazon.com from June 2025 to May 2026 for about $50. The adapters are designed to transfer the car seat from a car to the stroller. Only the car seat adapters are involved in the recall; the stroller is not involved. The black adapters are sold in a set of two and are made of plastic. A product identifier starting with NL311 can be found on the inside of the adapter.

Consumers should stop using the Joolz Aer2 Car Seat Adapters immediately, detach them from the stroller and go to http://joolzcarseatadapter.expertinquiry.com to register for a full refund. The firm will provide a video on how to remove the adapters from the stroller. Consumers must return the recalled adapter sets using the prepaid shipping label to receive a refund. Full refunds will be reimbursed via an electronic payment method or a virtual prepaid gift card to use anywhere.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently issued a recall on GOPO TOYS Pull String Teething Toys. The recalled teething toys violate the mandatory standard for toys because the silicone strings are smaller and longer than permitted. The strings can reach the back of a child’s throat and become lodged, posing a serious risk of respiratory distress and deadly choking hazard.

The recalled teething toys were sold online at Amazon.com from August 2023 through March 2026 for between $11 and $15. The teething toys consist of an off-white disc shape with a gray ball in the center and six multi-colored, silicone tentacle-looking pull strings that run through the ball. The brand name and “Pull String Toy” is printed on the front of the packaging, and the batch number 250905, 250530, 250120, 240315, 231005 or 230610 is on the back of packaging.

Consumers are advised to stop allowing their infant to use the teething toy immediately and contact GOPO TOYS to receive a full refund. Consumers will be asked to destroy the toy by cutting all silicone strings and writing in permanent marker “DESTROYED” on the main body of the toy, and to send a photo to [email protected].

🇺🇸Happy Independence Day from the National Center on Shaken Baby Syndrome!

As we come together to celebrate freedom, and America’s 250 anniversary, here are a few suggestions from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) for keeping little ones safe during the festivities:

❤️Ensure that you and your children watch fireworks from a safe distance of at least 500 feet away from the launch site
🤍Consider a safer alternative to sparklers such as a flag or glow stick
💙Even if fireworks are legal to purchase and use in your community, the AAP recommends that they are not safe around children—consider attending a professional firework show instead

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently issued a recall on AirClub Convertible Bassinets. The recalled convertible bassinets violate the mandatory standard for bedside sleepers because the mechanism used to attach the product to the adult bed creates an opening between the bedside sleeper and mattress, posing a deadly fall hazard to infants.

The bassinets were sold online on Amazon.com from October 2023 through December 2025 for between $110 and $130. The bassinets come in light grey, beige, and purple colors with quilted padding. Product Model QX-831 is on a label located on the bottom of the bassinets underneath the mattress pad.

Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled bassinets and contact AirClub for a replacement attachment mechanism. Consumers will be asked to cut off the two original L-shaped straps, throw them away, and follow the instructions provided to install the new straps with T-shaped buckle.
