Freedom Walk 2026 marks the 250th anniversary of American independence by embarking on a 750-mile pilgrimage following 19th-century underground railroad routes from bo***ge to freedom; commemorating freedom seekers, abolitionists, and their secret networks.

Freedom “Walkers,” will soon pass through Cayuga, Wayne, and Monroe Counties.

More than a walk, Freedom Walk 2026 is hosting programs throughout the region:

Thursday, June 18th:
1:00 WXXI’s Connections with Evan Dawson
5:30 p.m. Community Concert, Erie Canal Park, Macedon, at 1816 Meetinghouse table.

Friday, June 19th:
2 to 5 pm—Open House and Historical tours at the Farmington 1816 Quaker Meeting House, 230 Sheldon Rd, Farmington, NY.
7-9 p.m. Evening of music, speakers and first person reenactors at Farmington Friends Quaker Meeting House, 187 C.R. #8, Farmington, NY (across from the 1816 Meetinghouse).

Saturday, June 20th:
10-12 a.m. Memorial AME Zion Church, Rochester. AKWAABA: The Heritage Associates, will feature a “Gathering of Women,” during which living historians will portray Harriet Tubman, Anna Murray Douglass, Sojourner Truth, Nancy Tolliver and others.

OUR PASTORS

Julie E. Rudd, M.Div. and Craig M. Dove, M.Div., PhD.

Julie Rudd grew up in the Tug Hill area of New York. She attended Houghton College in Western NY, graduated from seminary at the Earlham School of Religion, and returned to New York to work at a case management program at the Salvation Army in Syracuse addressing the needs of chronically homeless clients. She spent the past eleven years serving as a Friends pastor southwest Ohio, and she also worked in communications at Friends United Meeting.

Craig Dove grew up east of Portland, Oregon. He studied philosophy, completing his bachelors at Duke University, his masters at the University of South Carolina, and his PhD at Tulane University. He also earned a Masters of Divinity at the Earlham School of Religion, and spent the previous decade in Ohio working as a hospice chaplain with OhioHealth and becoming board certified. He chaired OhioHealth's Ethics Advisory Committee for Community Based Services and also served on the board of the BioEthics Network of Ohio.

Julie and Craig met in seminary and married in 2014. They have twins, George and Gardenia, who were born on December 25th, 2022.
