Totah Fine Arts Festival kicks off with a celebration to the arts and remembering a beloved artist.

The Totah Fine Arts Festival tonight celebrated the art, the vision, and the creative minds behind the success for the past 37 years. In 1988, Claudine Riddle established the Totah Festival in tribute to the artists and to create a place for art to be celebrated. Tonight was about the artists and a dedication of a prestigious award to a beloved artist who sadly passed away on August 20.

Pauline Sarracino was a gem, precious, and rare. Pauline and her husband Ralph Sarracino were loyal supporters of the festival dating back to the first ever Totah Festival. It's the artists that continue to support the mission that contributes to it's success. The Totah Foundation recognized Pauline and her family tonight by dedicating the Pauline Sarracino Emerging Artist Award in her honor. Ralph and her daughter, Geraldine Toya accepted a plaque celebrating Pauline and her lifetime achievement as an artist, an active community member but most of all the love she had for life.

This award will forever carry her name and she will always be a part of the Totah Fine Arts Festival. The celebration continued in recognizing the top artists of the night. The foundation recognized the top artists in each category along with four prestigious awards including the Best of Show which was given to jewelry artist, Shaun Rogers.

Each year the festival continues the tradition of hosting the annual poster contest. This year's winner, Patt Yazzie's winning piece, titled, "Long Walk Survival," will be the official poster of this year's festival. Art is to be celebrated, it's the family we become and the dedication that continues be the heartbeat of the festival. We invite you to celebrate with us this weekend and who knows, you may just purchase one of the prized pieces awarded tonight. Celebrate art, celebrate community but most of all celebrate life with us this weekend during the Totah Fine Arts Festival. All happening this weekend downtown at the Farmington Civic Center.
