Farmington Yellow Ribbon Network

Farmington Yellow Ribbon Network Founded in 2007 - continuing MN's proud history of recognizing and supporting our service members & their families. Here is a little background of our group.

Purpose: Engage our community by:
• Organize family support
• Provide community education
• Recognizing military members/families You may wonder what kind of impact you can have, how can I add another thing in my life? Well, like you, all of our FYRN volunteers are moms, dads, sons, daughters, full-time employees, some are retired, others own businesses...we are just like you. And together, we can

accomplish much more than we ever could on our own. Hence the last part of our name, “Network!”
If you can be a good neighbor, be kind, make calls, mow grass, rake leaves, remove snow, bake cookies, or give a ride, you can partner with FYRN to carry out our mission. Formerly the Farmington Warrior to Citizen Yellow Ribbon Network (W2C). Created from a Chaplin’s dream on paper to reality by a mother of a soldier would make it her passion. Through her energy, patriotism, and desire to serve those who serve, Annette Kuyper drove Farmington into being the first-ever “Yellow Ribbon” entity anywhere! She has gone on to inspire other communities, churches, businesses, and individuals to commit to serving our military personnel and making the Yellow Ribbon network a reality. The Steering Committee that meets monthly to ensure that active US Military Service-members, Veterans, and Military Families are supported, honored, and recognized. They volunteer to assist military families, such as arranging immediate hands-on support to a local family of a wounded warrior’s family within hours of the notification, insures projects like the Dakota County Annual Military Picnic, the Annual Military Mother and Grandmother luncheon, the Monthly Free Dinner for Veterans, the annual Christmas Cookies for Vets, and group participation in observation of Memorial Day, Veterans Day, Patriotic Day, Guard Weekend BBQs, Community Expos, HS Senior Enlistee recognition dinners, and many other events. If it supports a military member or their family, we want to be part of it! There you have it. Our steering Committee meets most 4th Tuesday evenings of the month, 6 PM, Farmington City Hall. If you have any questions please feel free to reply to this email. Hope to see you soon.

Memorial Day Programs this weekend.

05/23/2026

Remember the reason for this weekend.

"Memorial Day was never meant to just be a long weekend. It is a sacred pause.
A moment to remember that freedom has always cost somebody something.

It is the sound of children laughing in a country men and women died protecting.
It is the silence at dinner tables where a seat never got filled again.
It is folded flags pressed into trembling hands.
Dog tags tucked away in old wooden boxes.
Wedding rings still worn by widows decades later.
Parents who kissed their child goodbye one last time without knowing it would be the last.

Memorial Day is not about those who served only.
It is about those who never made it home.
The ones who gave birthdays, anniversaries, future grandchildren, quiet mornings, ordinary Tuesdays… all of it… for a country they believed was worth protecting.

Somewhere this weekend, a mother is still grieving a son who died in uniform.
Somewhere, a child only knows their father through photographs and stories.
Somewhere, an old flag hangs carefully folded because it is all a family has left to hold onto.

And yet here we are… living the very life they fought for.

The freedom to gather.
To worship.
To raise our children in peace.
To laugh loudly on porches under an American sky.
To argue, dream, build businesses, fall in love, and live ordinary lives without fear.

Those ordinary moments we so easily rush through were paid for by extraordinary sacrifice.

So yes, enjoy the sunshine.
Hold your babies close.
Laugh around the grill.
Watch the fireworks.
Wave the flag proudly.

But before this weekend ends, stop for a moment and remember the men and women who laid down their lives for people they would never even meet.

Because Memorial Day is not just the celebration of freedom.
It is the remembrance of the people who gave everything so America could still have it. 🇺🇸"
