The Suffrage Quilt will be in the Caledonia Quilt Show on June 12, 2021, at Caledonia, MO.

We are also completing the application for the Houston Quilt Show. The quilt was accepted for 2020, but the show was canceled. We are hoping it will receive a second chance/approval.

The Women's Suffrage Quilt has spent the last month in Washington, D.C., at the United States Capitol. While there, she was taken on a tour of significant locations in the Capitol and posed for photos.

I thought visitors would enjoy seeing her poses.

We want to thank Carol Grix (Threads of Friendship Quilt Guild), who set up her trip to Washington, D.C. and organized and shipped her. Carol's liaison at the Capitol was Marshall Stallings, Scheduler for Congressman Jason Smith (MO-08). I think we can thank him for taking the Women's Suffrage Quilt on the tour and taking photos.

I just finished Part 2 of “American Experience: The Vote.” At the end of the documentary, there was a statement that it was available on PBS Pastport, Amazon Prime, and for purchase from PBS.org.

I knew women sacrificed, were jailed, and worked over decades to win the right to vote, but I had no idea of the extent of their efforts.

Today, after watching the documentary, I realize how fortunate I am (as a woman) to have the right to vote. I have difficulty understanding the significance to this right and the battle women faced in achieving this goal.

Although I probably shouldn’t have been, I was amazed that the United States was among, if not the last, nation where women won voting rights. The country that surprised me was Russia. Russian women had voting rights before American women.

From previous research and dating the state stars on the Suffragette Quilt, I knew that southern states were united against the 19th Amendment and women’s rights. I knew their ratification occurred after the amendment was already “law of the land.” I did not realize that part of their firm stand was because of racial bias and the desire to maintain white supremacy. They feared women would challenge white control.

This documentary is eye-opening. Great job PBS.

I know this is late...after the fast.

Beginning on Monday, July 6, 2020, PBS started “American Experience: The Vote.” On Tuesday, July 7, 2020, the part 1 was repeated and part 2 was shared. This series covers women’s fight for the right to vote. It is masterfully done and so informative. I know it will be available for streaming on PBS; but I’m not sure if it will be on YouTube or Amazon Prime.

If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it. It is worth a search to find it.

It made me prouder to be a woman. I wonder where I would have stood and what I would have done.

I just opened my PBS email and found an add for documentaries on the Women’s Suffrage movement. The multi-night event starts on Monday. I watched the trailer and think it will be outstanding.

We've lacked a complete, straight-on photo of the Suffragette Quilt. I was able to get one at Threads of Friendship Quilters' Guild March meeting.
