Memorial Day is a day to pause and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. It's more than a long weekend, it's a solemn tribute to the ultimate sacrifice made by so many, and a reminder of the freedoms we hold dear because of them.
This morning, we were honored to once again take part in the Farmington Memorial Day Parade, a beloved community tradition since 1970. As we have for many years, members of the Xemplar Club handed out American flags to everyone lining the parade route before the parade began, so that every neighbor, friend, and visitor could wave a flag in gratitude as our veterans, active-duty service members, first responders, and parade participants passed by.
Carrying on this tradition year after year is one of the ways we're proud to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice and to keep this meaningful day strong in our community.
To all who have served and to the families who have lost loved ones, we remember. We're grateful. 🇺🇸

The 22nd Annual Xemplar Signature Golf Classic returns June 24, 2026.
A morning at Farmington Hills Golf Club. Shotgun start at 10. Continental breakfast, hot dog lunch on the course, full sit-down dinner after the round — and every dollar raised supports 28+ local nonprofits serving at-risk children, seniors, and families across Farmington and Farmington Hills.

In 2025, the Xemplar Foundation distributed over $20,000 in grants to our community. Let's beat it this year.

The Xemplar Club is a 501(c)(3) public charity based in Farmington, Michigan, bringing together more than 80 active members united by one mission: strengthening our community by supporting the people and organizations that serve it.

Every week, our members — business owners, educators, city leaders, public safety professionals, and community advocates — gather for Wednesday luncheons at John Cowley & Sons in downtown Farmington to connect, learn from guest speakers, and keep our community close.
Independent since 2001 and entirely self-funded, every dollar we raise goes directly back into Farmington and Farmington Hills as grants to local nonprofits serving youth, families, and seniors. No overhead. No politics. 100% community impact.

FAMILY FEUD IS BACK

CARES and the Xemplar Club are bringing back our seventh annual Family Feud Night!

Last year, you filled the room so fast we had to turn people away.
This year, we opened up more seating, but make no mistake, tickets will sell out again.

This is a night about neighbors coming together to support neighbors, filled with high-energy fun as teams try to guess the most popular answers to local, community-style survey questions. There will be a cash bar, extra games throughout the night, and cash prizes, so bring some small bills and come ready to play!

🍪 Xemplar Club Speaker Spotlight: Mary & Derek O’Connor 🍪

In April, we were delighted to welcome Mary and Derek O’Connor, founders of Chocolate Chipped Bakery, a local favorite that started at the Farmington Farmers Market and has grown into a downtown Farmington storefront.

What began in 2017 as Mary’s quest to create the perfect chocolate chip cookie—soft and doughy inside, crisp on the edges, and packed with chocolate chips—quickly turned into a beloved business with a loyal following.

The O’Connors shared their journey of persistence, quality, and community connection, reminding us how local businesses strengthen the fabric of our community. Of course, they also brought along samples of their famous cookies for members to enjoy!

🌟 Xemplar Club Speaker Spotlight: Valerie Knol 🌟

In April, we welcomed Valerie Knol, longtime public servant and current Farmington Hills City Council member, for an inspiring conversation on leadership and community impact.

Valerie shared how her journey began not with a campaign, but with volunteering on the Planning Commission—proof that small steps can lead to lasting contributions. She reminded us that:

“The government that affects your life the most is your local government.”

Leadership isn’t about titles, but about showing up, listening, and caring for those around you.

Engagement—whether at a council meeting, neighborhood event, or as a volunteer—is a powerful way to make a difference.

We’re grateful to Valerie for her candor, passion, and commitment to building stronger communities. Her story reminds us that leadership starts with listening, and that each of us has a role to play. 💙
