Another great turnout at this month's Local 27 Retirees Meeting. A room full of the men who built this local, this trade, and this brotherhood with their own two hands. Decades of craftsmanship, wisdom, and union pride were on full display.
These monthly gatherings are about more than just catching up. They're a reminder of where we came from, the sacrifices our retirees made to strengthen this union, and the standard they set for every member who came after them. Their hard work is the foundation we're still building on today.
A special thank you to President and Business Manager Christopher George for continuing to lead Local 27 and making sure our retirees always have a seat at the table. Once a brother, always a brother. At Local 27, you're family for life.
To all our retirees: thank you for everything you've given to this trade. Brotherhood never retires.

Huge news for Sheet Metal Workers Local 27! We are officially the first in the nation to host the new NEMI and SMART Rigging and Signaling ICB Certification performance exam. This beta program is setting the new standard for safety and technical skill in the trades.
Our 3rd-year apprentice class recently completed the process, which included both a comprehensive written exam and a hands-on performance test. Under the supervision of NEMI representatives Bob Rushkowski Jr. and Josh Hunter, our apprentices proved they have the precision required for this certification.
Special thanks to Apprentice Coordinator John Espinos and Instructor Arthur Mason for their leadership in bringing this program to our hall. We are proud to be the proving ground for the future of SMART!

It’s officially day 5️⃣ of National Apprentice Week! Today, we’d like to highlight the versatile talent at STS Sheet Metal Inc. in Vineland. We’re featuring two standout apprentices: John Weatherby, a 3rd-year apprentice, was caught in action at the STS shop expertly forming ductwork. Meanwhile, 4th-year apprentice Jaden Shepard is out in the field at Corning Glass, putting his skills to the test while working on a complex furnace discharge stack.
Located at 2569 N Delsea Drive, the crew at STS Sheet Metal shows exactly what it means to be Local 27 Strong. Great work, John and Jaden!

As we move through National Apprenticeship Week, Sheet Metal Workers Local 27 is proud to showcase the training and real-world impact of our apprenticeship program. On day four, we are recognizing three brothers, including 4th-year Apprentice John Espinos III with Mid Atlantic Mechanical. John is performing specialized 16-gauge welding on exhaust systems for a sterilization room at Vogel, a cancer center in Tinton Falls.
Supporting the workflow from the shop and the field are Jim Green, a 1st-year apprentice at Thassian Mechanical assembling radius elbows, and Bobby Avila, a 2nd-year apprentice with Bonland Industries currently hanging supply diffusers at Academy Charter School in Trenton. These projects highlight the essential role our contractors and apprentices play in the safety and functionality of our state's infrastructure. Awesome work from John, Jim, and Bobby!

Day 2 of National Apprenticeship Week!

We're proud to feature the hard-working apprentices at Gerard Sheet Metal in East Brunswick, NJ! The sheet metal trade requires a unique blend of physical grit and technical expertise. Seeing 1st-year apprentices like Brenden Bosserman and Jordyn Katz mastering duct assembly and reinforcement shows the strength of our entry-level training. Meanwhile, 3rd-year apprentice Teal Rasmussen demonstrates the advanced fabrication skills that keep our projects on schedule and up to code.
Congratulations to these three on their progress and their commitment to the craft!

To kick off National Apprenticeship Week, we’re taking you inside the shop for a look at the future of our trade. Last week, Instructor Arthur Mason led our 3rd Year Apprentice Class 3B through the complex process of laying out offset fittings. Watching these apprentices dive into the layout process proves that our trade is evolving and our members are ready for the challenge. Our apprenticeship program is a pathway to more than just a job, it creates a life-long craft.
At Local 27, we take pride in passing down the precision and grit required to be a sheet metal professional. Seeing these apprentices master the layout today means our industry is in great hands tomorrow.
Keep up the hard work, 3B!
