SAVE THE DATE!!! - A Month-Long, Statewide Waterway and Shoreline Cleanup
September 2026

Keep Louisiana Beautiful needs your help to clean up our state’s rivers, lakes, bayous, and shorelines. Our 14,400-mile waterway system is Louisiana’s lifeblood, essential to the vitality of our environment, economy, health, recreation, and culture. We all need to pitch in to clean up marine litter and Love Our Waterways.

Did you know Union Parish has 5 Scenic Waterways!! Yes, that is correct! Union Parish is often celebrated as the "Top of the Boot" and is home to five spectacular rivers, bayous, and creeks that are a paradise for outdoor and paddling enthusiasts. The five scenic waterways in Union Parish include:

Lake D'Arbonne: The 15,000-acre "crown jewel" of the parish, renowned for its coves, cypress trees, and national championship crappie fishing.

D'Arbonne Bayou: A winding waterway known for diverse wildlife and peaceful, lush surroundings.

Bayou DeLoutre: A tranquil and rustic stream meandering through natural landscapes.

Corney Creek: A country favorite known for its rustic shores and excellent paddling conditions.

Ouachita River: The eastern border of the parish offering broader, historic currents and boating.

Let's Work Together for Litter-Free Waterways and Spotless Shores.

With some reports still pending, we are proud to share the Keep Union Beautiful cleanup efforts for Love The Boot Week 2026.

Thank you to our 168 volunteers who collected over 276 bags of trash and debris from 32 miles of Union Parish roads—totaling more than 6,900 pounds of trash, not including tires and construction debris! While it may seem like a small accomplishment, efforts like ours are happening across all 64 parishes in Louisiana—making a big difference in keeping our state clean and beautiful.

We also recognize and appreciate other groups, including the Bernice Cultural District, local businesses, schools, and individuals who hosted their own cleanup events throughout our community.

Love The Boot Week is more than just a single event—it’s a reminder that caring for our parish should be a daily effort. We are grateful for those who make cleanup a regular habit.

How can you help?

* Bag your trash to prevent it from blowing out of vehicles or trucks
* Reuse and repurpose items when possible
* Reduce waste by using reusable water bottles and grocery bags
* Always place litter in trash cans—never toss it from your vehicle
* Secure items in boats and truck beds to prevent debris from blowing away
* Properly dispose of fishing line, bait boxes, and trash to protect wildlife and waterways

Thank you again to everyone who participated and supported Love The Boot Week. Let’s continue working together to Keep Union Beautiful—every day.

See you in September for the Waterways Sweep!
