Today is Human Trafficking Awareness Day.
This crime of modern day slavery occurs when a trafficker uses force, fraud, or coercion to control another person for the purpose of engaging in commercial s*x acts or soliciting labor or services against his/her will, with force, fraud, or coercion not being required for minors under the age of 18.
The United States was ranked one of the world’s worst places for human trafficking in 2018, Texas being the second biggest offender in the nation. It wasn’t illegal in the US until 2000.
Cor Ignis Dance Company will be hosting a benefit concert for Refuge City, a nonprofit organization who’s work focuses on rehabilitating American children who have been sold for s*x. Please join us on April 25, 2020, at 6:30pm, as we come together to strengthen our community’s awareness of this horrific crime and raise funds to support Refuge City in their work of preventing this act and restoring the lives of child s*x trafficking victims.
