Make-A-Wish America was founded in 1980 when Chris Greicius, a 7-year-old boy from Phoenix Arizona with leukemia, had a heartfelt wish of becoming a police officer. A group of officers from the Arizona Department of Public Safety granted his wish by giving him a custom-made uniform, helmet, badge and a helicopter ride. The young boy’s delight in having his wish granted inspired the group to form t

he organization, which would grant the special wishes of other children. The organization has now grown to 65 chapters in the United States and granted over 250,000 wishes to very deserving children.

Meet Anika, Program Intern for Fall 2026.

Anika supports our wish granting team and helps create life-changing wishes for local children. She is a senior at NDSU majoring in Human Development & Family Services.

When she's not in the office, you'll find her running sprints on the NDSU track team. After graduation, she hopes to become a Child Life Specialist or Social Worker.

Please join us in giving Anika a warm welcome. We're looking forward to the passion, creativity, and dedication she'll bring to our mission of creating life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. 💙⭐

💙✨Koa's Walt Disney World Adventure ✨💙

Koa is a fun-loving 4-year-old with congenital heart disease who loves to blow bubbles, read books, and play. When it came time to choose his wish, he knew exactly what he wanted: a trip to Disney World to meet Moana and his other favorite movie characters in real life!

And what was his favorite part?

The hugs.

According to his mom, Koa gave every character he met a big, extra-long hug. From Moana to many other Disney favorites, every interaction filled him with joy.

Not only did Koa experience the magic of Disney, but his entire family created unforgettable memories together.

Today we're celebrating Melissa and two incredible years of making wishes come true across North Dakota.

As our Wish Coordinator, Melissa is the person behind so many of the details that turn a wish into a life-changing experience. From booking travel and communicating with families to coordinating with in-kind donors and managing countless moving pieces, she helps bring each wish to life with exceptional organization, thoughtful planning, and genuine compassion.

Beyond the amazing work she does every day, Melissa is also an incredible teammate. Her positivity, dedication, and caring nature make our team stronger, and we are so grateful to have her with us.
