Back is Best! 🌙

Putting babies to sleep on their backs can reduce the risk of sudden unexpected infant death (SUID) by 50% or more.

Did you know? Products marketed to prevent SUID, including pillows, wedges, and inclined sleep products, are not proven to prevent SUID and may pose serious safety risks.

Always place babies on their backs on a firm, flat, level sleep surface with a fitted sheet and no other items in the sleep space.

For every nap. For every bedtime. Every time.

A simple step can save precious lives.

As the days get shorter, visibility becomes even more important for anyone walking, biking, or playing outdoors after sundown. With Halloween and ongoing fall activities, this is especially relevant.

👀 Help others see you!
✨Wear reflective clothing or accessories to help drivers spot you and your children in low-light conditions.
✨Carry a flashlight when walking at dusk or in the dark.
✨Use sidewalks and crosswalks whenever possible.
✨Add reflective elements to jackets, shoes, backpacks, bags, bicycle helmets, bikes, scooters, and other wheeled toys.
✨Make Halloween safer by choosing costumes with reflective elements and using glow sticks or reflective trick-or-treat bags.

💡Tip: Make it fun! Turn getting visible into a family activity by decorating bike helmets, trick-or-treat bags, or other items your kids will wear or carry while out with reflective stickers or materials!

October is proving to be a busy, fun, and safety-filled month!

Join us throughout the remainder of the month as we share tips, facts, and resources in recognition of ✨ Safe Sleep Month ✨.

Safe sleep may sound simple, but we understand that the reality of putting recommendations into practice can be challenging.

The good news? Small changes, like keeping the crib clear of blankets, pillows, beloved stuffies, and crib bumpers can make a big difference in keeping our little ones safe!

✈️ Our final fire safety tip as we wrap up Fire Prevention Week: Charge Safely While Flying!

This tip is especially relevant as we approach a season of festivities and travel! Remember, if you're traveling with electronics, where you charge them matters. Safe charging practices help protect you and everyone around you.

🔋 Keep portable charging devices on the tray table while charging.

🚫 Never charge devices in overhead compartments or charge e-cigarettes or vapes on a plane.

If a battery overheats or fails, keeping it visible and accessible helps the flight crew respond quickly.

⚡ Fire Prevention Week Safety Tip: Charge Safely!

E-bikes and scooters are more popular than ever with kids and teens! These items often contain lithium-ion batteries that store a lot of energy, so fires can grow quickly if a battery fails. Other common items stored in garages include power tools, lawn equipment, and rechargeable yard tools.

🔋 When possible, charge e-bikes, scooters, and other large battery-powered equipment outdoors in a safe, appropriate location.

🚪 Never block exits or escape routes while charging.

🔌Today’s Fire Prevention Week tip: Choose a safe charging spot!

Where you charge your devices matters. Items with lithium-ion batteries should be charged on a hard, flat surface, like a table or desk.

⚠️ Beds, couches, and pillows can trap heat and block airflow, increasing the risk of a battery overheating.

A small change in where you charge your devices can truly make a difference, safety-wise.

The week may be coming to an end, but we still have plenty of safety tips to share with you! Stay tuned!

🔌 Today’s tip resonates with most of us! I think we can all say that, at some point, we’ve left a device or something else charging much longer than needed.

Did you know? Items with lithium-ion batteries can include everything from your phone and tablet to power-tool and lawn-equipment batteries-and even toys!

Leaving a device plugged in longer than needed can increase heat and put additional stress on the battery. Small changes in our habits, like unplugging a device when charging is complete, can help keep your devices and home safer.

Don’t go too far; we’ll be sharing more safety tips as the week goes on!
