We’re in the middle of delivering dictionaries to every 3rd grader in Fargo and West Fargo — more than 100 classrooms this fall! 📚✨

Volunteers from the Fargo Rotary Clubs, Elks, and Horace Lions have already been in schools this week, helping students explore language, curiosity, and confidence.

And we’re still going through mid November.

If you happen to run into a third grader in Fargo or West Fargo, see if they can school you on something new they learned!

Are you smarter than a third grader? The kids at Legacy Elementary in Horace challenge all adults to answer the following questions from things the kids learned from their dictionaries this morning:
1) What is Zr in the Periodic Table of Elements?
2) What is the capital of Saudi Arabia?
3) How do you sign rhe letter "I" in American Sign Language?
4) How do you write 1 million in Roman Numerals?
5) What is the definition of rudimentary?
6) What is the ASL sign for the number 8?
7) What is the longest word in English?

If you can answer all of these questions WITHOUT using a computer, you might be smarter than a third grader! Can you do it?

The Dictionary Project

The FM Rotary Foundation sponsors the The Dictionary Project every year in Fargo and West Fargo. This year, we are thrilled to be working with Horace Lions Club and Fargo Elks 260 to reach all Fargo and West Fargo third graders. After surveying the teachers last year, we learned how important these books really are. We appreciate having the opportunity to talk about service, literacy and learning directly with third graders!

How can our Rotary community help our Rotary friends in the California wildfires? Renee Amy is a ShelterBox Volunteer and Rotarian from Altadena, CA. On Tuesday his home burned to the ground, along with the homes of almost every member of his Rotary Club. ShelterBox USA responded with blankets and solar lights for the emergency shelters housing some of the 180,000 displaced persons. The Rotary Disaster Relief Fund was created for these situations. Can your club provide assistance? Are your members prepared for a community disaster?

It's dictionary distribution time! Every year, Rotarians from the 4 Fargo clubs distribute dictionaries to every 3rd grader in Fargo and West Fargo. The joy is palpable on the children's faces as they receive their very own books that are filled with words, facts, history, civics, science, geography and more. ShelterBox Updates.

🚚 Trucks filled with ShelterBox aid have arrived at the Rafah border crossing, waiting to deliver emergency shelter relief to Gaza. They're part of a convoy of up to 1,400 trucks waiting to be allowed in. We're not sure about timing, but will continue to provide updates once our aid has crossed into Gaza.
