Yesterday was one of those days that perfectly captures what Minn-Kota PAAWS is all about.
At the invitation of our friend Neal, we held a pop-up pet food pantry at a residential hotel where many residents are housing insecure and living with dogs and cats. We were able to distribute pet food, meet some great people, learn about their needs, and share information about the services available through PAAWS.
From there, we delivered excess pet food to the Downtown Engagement Center, where dedicated staff work every day to support our unhoused neighbors. We are grateful for the important work they do and for the opportunity to help support their work.
Our day ended at Family HealthCare Homeless Health program, where we learned about a community member who had been hospitalized and was worried about her dog. With help from Britny, Katie, and Jeanne, we were able to spring the dog from the pound and find her a safe place to stay while her owner focuses on her health and recovery.
At Minn-Kota PAAWS, we care about pets—but we also care deeply about the people attached to them. Yesterday was a powerful reminder that when communities come together, we can solve problems, remove barriers, and keep pets and people together when they need each other most.
A MASSIVE thank you to Neal , who spent the day showing us around his neighborhood and introducing us to community partners and resources. None of this would have been possible without him. We are incredibly grateful for the trust our clients/friends place in us and we are so proud to work alongside them.
We love our clients.
We love their pets.
And we love showing up for our community.
