Stay on the Gospel mission, avoid the feelings of maintaining, buildings, programs and people, and you will never find yourself worshipping in a museum!
THE HABITS THAT KEEP A CHURCH HEALTHY
Healthy churches are not healthy by accident. They don’t remain spiritually vibrant because of a gifted pastor, a beautiful building, or an attractive location. Their health is the result of biblical priorities that are cultivated year after year.
Healthy churches never lose sight of their mission. They refuse to become consumed with maintaining an organization while neglecting the Great Commission. Their heartbeat is reaching people with the gospel and making mature disciples of Jesus Christ.
They also maintain a deep dependence upon God. Prayer is not reserved for emergencies or formalities. It is the atmosphere in which ministry thrives. They recognize that while people can organize meetings, only God can change hearts.
Healthy churches love the truth. They do not adjust Scripture to fit the culture; they call the culture to submit to Scripture. Biblical preaching remains central because faith is built upon the Word of God.
Perhaps most importantly, healthy churches never stop examining themselves. They remain humble enough to ask difficult questions, acknowledge weaknesses, and make necessary corrections before small problems become serious ones.
No church is perfect. But healthy churches continually pursue the One who is.
