We had so much fun at last year's Open House and Touch-A-Truck hosted by Falmouth Fire-EMS with support from Falmouth Parks & Community Programs! Hope you will join us this year on October 10 from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm at Central Station for another year of fun and activities. Meet firefighters and officers, see all the exciting fire trucks, ambulances, and other heavy equipment. Refreshments, games, raffles, fire safety information, and more round out the fun! All part of Fire Prevention Week!

Falmouth Parks & Community Programs Director, Lucky D'Ascanio, was recently sworn in as president of the New England Park Association’s Board of Directors. She is only the third woman to serve as president in the organization's 128-year history. As the oldest park association in America, NEPA offers a proud legacy and tradition of assisting association membership to provide quality public and private park facilities throughout the six-state New England region. Their mission is to assume a leadership role in coordinating and facilitating sustained involvement and support for the park management industry by educating, enhancing, and promoting diverse opportunities for the New England Region. Congratulations, Lucky!

After months of preparation and study, Falmouth Parks & Community Programs Recreation Assistant/Out-of-School Time Coordinator, Ashlee Quirrion, recently passed the Certified Parks & Recreation Professional exam. According to the National Recreation & Park Association, this certification is the national standard for all parks and recreation professionals who want to be at the forefront of their profession. Certification requires meeting education and experience qualifications that illustrate commitment to the profession as well as knowledge and understanding of key concepts within parks and recreation. We are very excited and proud of Ashlee! An important member of the FCP team, Ashlee oversees our Before Care/After Care programs, Early Release/No School Day programs as well as our Summer Day Camp programs. Kudos to Ashlee!!

A Maine Conservation Corps trail crew is now working at Underwood Springs Forest!

The crew recently spent a week doing some major trail work at Community Park, including building 29 wooden steps into a notoriously steep and slippery hillside along the trail. At USF they will focus on building turnpikes, or raised gravel trail sections, to help with drainage in wet areas. This will help make the trails more resilient to all different kinds of weather. Be sure to say hi and thank the crew if you see them out working!

Kim Doyon the Senior Programs & Services Coordinator for Falmouth Parks & Community Programs has over 30 years of experience in the recreation field, specializing in the older adult population. Kim makes certain Falmouth's seniors feel a sense of belonging within our community. "My job at Falmouth Community Programs is to develop, plan, coordinate, and execute year-round recreational activities, trips, and special events for the 55+ community," says Kim. She also coordinates and distributes an over 55 newsletter full of resources specific to senior needs. During Parks & Rec Month, we are celebrating the staff at Falmouth Parks & Community Programs. Meet Kate Harris (if you have not already!). Kate has served as Recreation Coordinator for 22 years! She organizes some of Falmouth’s most beloved community events, including the tree lighting and concerts in the park. Everyone seems to know Kate, and Kate seems to know everyone in Falmouth--by name! "Best description I can say for what I do is I wear MANY hats," says Kate. From Ski programs, to trips abroad, to summer camps, Kate creates programs and experiences that bring residents together to gather, celebrate, and get to know each other and their community. Hat's off to Kate!
