Indigenous and First Peoples around the world have kept and revitalised sacred traditions, including many revolving around breastfeeding, milk medicine, and Native first food experiences.

IBCLCs respect and protect traditional wisdom and conventional evidence about the benefits of breastmilk and breastfeeding.

As we conclude World Breastfeeding Week, we wish to honour and elevate Indigenous Milk Medicine Week, August 8-14.

This year’s theme is “We Keep the Fires Lit: Rising Through Milk Medicine”. The Indigenous Milk Medicine Collective explains, “Fire represents the responsibility to tend what sustains life—our knowledge, families, and our future generations”.
