IAEM Group Highlight: K-12 Education Caucus

IAEM groups foster collaboration among members who share common interests, creating opportunities to learn, network, and share practical insights.

The K-12 Education Caucus focuses on addressing emergency management issues specific to K-12 school districts and fostering collaboration between school emergency managers and local city and county emergency management partners. The caucus provides a space for members to share experiences, discuss challenges, and exchange ideas that strengthen school preparedness and resilience.

The caucus hosts monthly virtual membership meetings and virtual "Playground Chat" collaboration sessions throughout the year that explore timely topics affecting K-12 emergency management. These discussions provide members with practical insights and opportunities to connect with peers working in similar environments.

If you work in an emergency management capacity within a K-12 institution or support organizations connected to schools or education, the IAEM K-12 Education Caucus is a valuable opportunity to connect, collaborate, and learn alongside others dedicated to keeping school communities safe.

IAEM Caucus Highlight: Weather Caucus

As a member benefit of IAEM, you can join one of our many caucuses to foster collaboration among members who share your common interests, creating opportunities to learn, network, and share practical insights.

The Weather Caucus connects those with a passion for weather and improving their communities' ability to address all aspects of its impacts. Through webinars on topics such as communicating heat risks, evolving hurricane classifications, and winter weather hazards, the caucus helps make the latest meteorological research more accessible and actionable for emergency managers.

The caucus is also developing the only national best-practices document on the use of outdoor warning sirens and maintains close connections with emergency management groups within the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association.

The group meets quarterly online and gathers in person at the IAEM Annual Conference in the fall.
