Memorial day is one day set aside to remember, honor, show respect to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. It is often a lifelong heartache for the families who lost their loved one in combat. There are so many veterans that returned different, often times fighting demons and horrific situations they experienced in combat. The VA can prescribe sometimes 40 meds and expect them to "get better", they fall deeper into a situation that could have been resolved if only those prescribing these meds listened and cared. Many of our veterans start to self medicate just to get through, my son was one of them. They do their best to get through many times alone without receiving the care they need and deserve; fighting to survive after they return then we lose them because it was just too much with some who become afflicted with mental health issues that overcome their lives. Depression, PTSD, TBI, trauma, and no one they feel has an answer or understands them. They shut down and give up. They come home and lose their lives after fighting for our families and country, stateside. The losses are tremendous and many. Everyday is a good time to reach out to those that lost a family member in combat and those fighting through what most of us could never handle. Everyday is memorial day for me; listen to the stories and do your best to be there and listen even to those who survived. We can never forget the tremendous sacrifices and should never judge or keep a blindfold on to those in need of a friend. Be their hero, stop and listen for it's when no one is there that horrible and tragic things often happen. Never turn your back on someone in need and always show the families that you care. Our fallen aren't just names. They are real people who had real lives and made an oath and therefore promise to defend and protect us all.

God bless our heroes and their loved ones. They have our backs and deserve our respect and love. My flag is lowered is yours?

Remembering and honoring those whose lives were taken and the families affected by this horrific attack on our soil, December 7, 1941.

The official death toll was 2,403, according to the Pearl Harbor Visitors Bureau, including 2,008 Navy personnel, 109 Marines, 218 Army service members and 68 civilians. Of the dead, 1,177 were from the USS Arizona, the wreckage of which now serves as the main memorial to the incident. Fifty-five Japanese also were killed.

Remember Sgt. Francisco Martinez, 82nd Airborne. Sgt. Martinez, aka, "Heavy Drop" served our country, a brave, diligent, and faithful soldier who was killed by an IED in Baghdad, Iraq on November 4, 2003.

The pain and scars from combat our service men and women hold inside are deep. The families affected by a loss are never the same. Remember Sgt. Francisco Martinez, his service and sacrifice allows us to continue to enjoy the freedoms he took the oath to protect.

Freedom is never free, the costs are tremendous to the families, servicemen and women, and our Nation.

Happy 250th Birthday to all the Marines I hold close in my heart. We've enjoyed multiple meals, trips, events, and good times in Florida, Ohio, Texas, New Hampshire, Louisiana, Oklahoma, California, Maryland, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, Delaware, and Virginia. Marching into cities and small towns, following cadence, orders and raising that Marine Corps flag for all to see. We have shared so many memories and I love watching you move forward, grow, celebrate, prosper, and continue to hold strong to and within your families. The always faithful and never wavering brotherly bond is amazing. Sending love out to you all and the families.

Operation Phantom Fury aka the 2nd Battle of Fallujah 11/07/2004 to 12/23/2004 a US led coalition entered Fallujah full of Marines & Soldiers & fought the heaviest battle since Hue City, Vietnam (1968). I am full of sadness mixed with pride, personally, and always honored to know & love many of the 1/3, 3/1, and 3/5 Marines who as young men withstood the fight. They lost 51 of their brothers with many more wounded...everyday they get through is another day to be proud. Always remember Freedom is never free the price is heavy & held within hearts of steel.

Remembering the brave sacrifices made during Operation Phantom Fury, the 2nd Battle of Fallujah. Twenty-one years have not erased the significant loss felt by the families and brothers who fought heroically together.

Watching our children and veterans grow and live their lives after going through so much sadness full of heartache and loss then to be blessed with happiness and better days is one thing, but having the honor of being called Nana after 22 years is the most wonderful gift. We love our children and veteran families like our own. Remember those who have taken the oath of military service, those lost defending our freedoms, those deployed, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
