Hi. The rescue owns a puppy incubator that get lent out when needed. The incubator is not working right now (not maintaining the right heat and humidity). Does anyone out there know how to fix it or where we can order new heat unit?

The company that it was purchased from, Lifeline Pet Products, is no longer in business...

Thank You in Advance

In California, if you are 501(c)(3) public benefit charity (dane rescue organization, for example), then the 501(c) three exemption status is not the only way the organization needs to be in compliance in order to be accepting donations, soliciting for donations and running rescue operations. in California, the Department of Justice, Office of the Attorney General, Registry of Charities and fundraisers, also have requirements. if an organization is out of compliance by being delinquent, then they are not allowed to be operating as a rescue or accepting donations or soliciting for donations.

One way to know if an organization is actually legitimate, is to use the search tool and see. if the organization is listed as "current" then it is allowed to operate. if it is delinquent, it is not. here is the search tool if you ever want to check out a California charity to see if they are in compliance:
rct.doj.ca.gov

The Great Dane Rescue of Southern California is the Great Dane division of Community Canines (501(c)(3) public benefit charity that conducts rescue operations). Attached is a photo of using the search tool and seeing if they are in compliance.

some donors do not care if an organization is in compliance or not or they are just ignorant to the process and they end up donating to organizations that are breaking the law.

so, if anyone cares, here is the information for you.

Please contact us at: [email protected]
if you are interested in adopting Moose.

This information is from the shelter/Animal Control in Santa Cruz:

Hello,

I am currently working to help a client, Christina, rehome their Great Dane. His name is Moose, 2-year-old neutered Harlequin Dane. The client with through a divorce, and her ex-husband surrendered Moose to our shelter. He was instantly terrified and showed that through reactivity while in a kennel. We did have some staff that were able to get him to warm up some, but not to the point where he would be adoptable through our shelter. Thankfully, Christina was able to come pick him up asap, as we were going to have to unfortunately move forward with Euthanasia based on his behavior in the shelter. He was elated to see her, and her young daughter. After seeing how happy he was with them, I offered to help find him placement. She is willing to travel to get him to a spot, should there be one available. He would thrive in a foster setting, and probably revert to fear reactivity if he had to be kenneled again. Here is some information and photos about Moose from Christina:

My life circumstances have changed drastically, and unexpectedly, and I am no longer in a position where I am able to keep him. When we got Moose, my husband and I lived on 50 acres. Since then, we have separated and I am now juggling being a single full-time working mother, and cannot afford to keep him, and do not have the time to devote to him, which is really heartbreaking to come to terms with. A little about Moose: - Moose is a 2 year old neutered male - He knows basic obedience commands: sit, stay, lie down, come, 'okay' (release word) and knows the verbal command as well as hand gestures. - He is great with other dogs (plays nicely with dogs of all sizes at the dog park. Smaller dogs often find him intimidating, but he is calm and patient while dogs sniff him, and he loves to play with anyone who will play with him! He lives with a senior lab/pit mix, currently, who is his best friend, and he would love a home with another dog. - He does fine with cats who are used to dogs -- mostly wants to play with them, grew up with a cat who tolerated him but mostly found his attempts to play with her annoying, so she ignored him. He would do well in a home without cats, or with confident cats who are comfortable with dogs. - Moose grew up with children (2 and 4, now are 4 and 6 years old) and loves them, he is gentle, loving and patient with them. - The main challenge is that he can be very wary meeting new people (barks and growls a lot) so requires slow and patient introductions. I think this is something that could be improved with training. He loves his people that he knows. This is mainly an issue at home, where he feels more protective and territorial, but he usually does fine out in public. That said, he does not like being approached by random strangers, but with the proper introduction, he does fine. - He is also terrified at the vet and in clinical settings, so needs to be sedated ahead of time. - He is current on Heartgard and Nexgard - He loves car rides and is a great traveler! I live in the Santa Cruz area, but am willing to travel to find him the loving home he deserves.

I am hopeful that we can find him a great spot. He is a beautiful boy and has lots of potential. Please let me know if you have any other questions or may be able to help. Thanks so much.

Here is Bella. She is 5 years old, was used for breeding. Owners sold her puppies and then dumped Bella in the desert. She is in the Riverside County shelter right now. Please let us know if you want her (foster or adoption). No, we do not know the owners or where they live, but, a person contacted us and that person knows. That is how we acquired the information. Her hold date is up on June 2nd, and if nobody wants her, she will be euthanized. So sad...
Also, The Great Dane Rescue of Southern California and Community Canines has several Great Danes in foster that need spays and neuters. Donations are needed to spay/neuter.

Please feel free to post your available litters, dogs you are looking to rehome, stud dogs, etc. on Great Dane Breeders Who Health Test group on facebook. Dogs must be fully OFA health tested (litters from fully OFA health tested parents) and must disclose if they had an echo or just an auscultation.

This had to become a private group instead of a public group because of byb's trying to post byb litters in the comments. If you have not joined, please do. There is also a variety of health topics discussed and some resources.

We aren't seeing enough OFA health tested litters with echo lately and we are not seeing many male Danes listed for breeding that have OFA health testing with echo.

Also, please keep in mind that it is beneficial to the dogs (especially those being used) to have more than just baseline OFA testing at age 2. It is better to health test throughout the life of the dog (especially echo)... we do not see much of that either...

Also important is the longevity of the dogs... that matters too :)
Enjoy!

OK. Brindle pup, Loki, is going to a temporary foster home today in a busy area. Hoping that he has a great experience, good socialization and that lots of people can see him.

Tuesday Begging for monetary donations will begin now for Community Canines & The Great Dane Rescue of Southern California.

Funds are desperately needed for spays/neuters for the Dane Rescues that need to be fixed before they can find their forever homes.

Also, lots of baby kitties coming into rescue that need spays/neuters, etc.

If any of you would like to donate to a rescue where the workers and board are 100% volunteer, and the $ goes directly to services for the animals, please consider Community Canines and
The Great Dane Rescue of Southern California.
