One of the most significant assets of any community is its youth. Fall River has a long history of understanding this concept and has worked hard at giving youth a voice and a choice. During the 2015 Youth and Candidates Forum, Mayor Jasiel Correia pledged to resurrect the Mayor’s Youth Council to ensure that the youth in the community not only have a voice but have meaningful opportunities to be involved in their city and its government.
The primary goal of the Mayor’s Youth Council will be to assist the mayor in establishing the administration’s youth agenda. The agenda will identify issues that are important to the youth of Fall River, such as education, employment, community service, health, physical fitness, recreation, and more. The Youth Council will also be involved in many community and neighborhood activities.
The Mayor’s Youth Council is open to high school aged youth who are passionate about issues facing youth today and who live in Fall River or attend school in Fall River. The council will meet at least once a month to discuss the issues and concerns that are important to youth, and then help identify and be part of solutions.
