Today, the Fall River Educators Association (FREA) celebrates the rich history, culture, and contributions of Indigenous peoples.

Fall River, Massachusetts, is located on the ancestral lands of the Pocasset Wampanoag people, whose history and connection to this region span generations.

We honor their enduring heritage, traditions, and contributions to our community and beyond.

Remembering FREA past president Gerry Fallon

Gerry was 92 years old when he passed away last month. He was a well respected active member of our union, particularly in the 80's and 90's.

As a long time Chairman of the Grievance Committee and later president, Gerry achieved a record of successful resolution of cases recognized both locally and at the state level. He had a remarkable memory for details of past cases in particularly those that became precedents for future grievances.

He also successfully concluded negotiations for a multi year contract that achieved a substantial pay increase in salary for educators in Fall River.

Gerry was a respected and notable educator and tireless FREA leader.

The strength of our union comes from the people who show up every day, support each other, and continue fighting for the respect, dignity, and working conditions educators deserve.

Ms. Seay is kicking off her 5th year in education at Letourneau Elementary School!

Year 11 started with an extra-special end-of-day visitor for Mrs. Lieberman! 💕👶

Mrs. Lieberman, a Special Education teacher at Doran, returned from maternity leave, kicking off her 11th year in education. After a full first day back, her little one stopped by for some much-needed baby snuggles.

This sweet moment is also a reminder of why paid parental leave matters. Under our FREA contract, educators have four weeks of paid parental leave, along with the ability to use accrued sick time—giving our members more meaningful time to recover, bond, and care for their growing families.

This is what collective bargaining looks like: contract language that directly improves the lives of educators and their families.

Here’s to Year 11, Mrs. Lieberman, and to celebrating both the students we care for at school and the families waiting for us at home.

Community is at the heart of everything we do in our schools. 💙

As Mrs. Roussel begins her 28th year as a Special Education teacher at Letourneau Elementary, she welcomed students back alongside a familiar face from the community—who also happens to be her daughter-in-law.

Moments like this are a wonderful reminder that strong schools are built through strong relationships. When educators, families, neighbors, and community members come together, our students feel more connected, supported, and surrounded by people who are invested in their success.

Wishing Mrs. Roussel, and all of the Letourneau students, staff, families, neighbors, and community members a successful and connected school year ahead! 🍎📚💙
