During week two of the LMCA telecommunications training program, participants started off by taking part in Texas Telephone Association regional managers meeting consisting of CEOs and upper management. Students had the opportunity to be part of a panel showcasing what they have learned and were asked questions about how this program will be paving the way for more telecommunications trainings in the future.

Participants also put in to practice the planning and staking skills learned during week 1 and assisted RTC staff in construction of a fiber connection to a building on school grounds.
Technician trainees were present for staking, locating facilities, Hydroexcavation, installation of poly-duct (pipe), resorting customer site to original condition, pulling fiber into duct, splicing fiber optic cable at field and customer location sides. The students also ended their second successful week by receiving their first paychecks.

Week one has been completed for our Telecommunications summer youth training program. Our participants have been actively engaged in learning all about fiber optics, demonstrating remarkable enthusiasm throughout all activities. Their eagerness to explore and absorb new information has been truly inspiring. Looking forward to the new week has in store for them.

‼️ARE YOU LOOKING FOR A SUMMER JOB ?

Los Mesteños Career Academy and Del Mar College are collaborating to offer a four-week paid summer program in Construction Trades Career Exploration. Students must be currently enrolled in both Brooks County and Premont ISD for the 2024-2025 school year and be current 8-9 graders.

Participants will work from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Monday -Thursday and will be paid $9:50 per hour

Chosen individuals will travel daily to Del Mar College in Corpus Christi to get the opportunity to learn about careers in construction.

If interested in this job training opportunity, applications can be picked up and returned to the junior high or high school counselors office or at losmestenos.org

Los Mesteños Career Academy and Riviera Telephone Company are collaborating to offer a four-week paid summer program in Career Exploration for high school students in Riviera. Students must be currently enrolled in Riviera ISD high school in the 2024-2025 school year.

Participants will work from 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Monday -Thursday and will be paid $9:50 per hour

Chosen individuals will get the opportunity to learn about fiber optics. Participants will learn some of the following:

➡️How to plan construction for fiber optic installation
➡️Creating staking sheets for fiber optic installation
➡️Experiencing the process of safely locating existing facilities
➡️Assisting in construction jobs to install fiber optic cable
➡️Learning about construction and trench safety
➡️Safe practices around heavy equipment (including transport and load securement techniques)
➡️Installation and preparation of fiber duct & optic cable
➡️Splicing of fiber optic cable
➡️Routing and storage of fiber optic cable
➡️Installing and terminating network cables

Bay Ltd. Personnel Manager Lita Ramirez met with students from Los Mestenos Career Academy as they toured the Craft Training Center in Corpus Christi and learned about the multitude of job opportunities available at Bay Ltd. and our hiring processes. Students from Falfurrias and Premont High School are participating in a four-week paid summer program in construction and career exploration being offered through Los Mestenos Career Academy’s summer youth program, which is a work based learning program that allows students to earn a paycheck while learning valuable skills

At Bay Ltd., we encourage students to participate in programs and training that allow them to gain experience in the construction industry!
