Check: 11605 Meridian Market View, Unit 124, #242, Falcon, CO 80831. Your donation will go toward the feed and vet care of our rescues for life. We do not adopt out our rescues. We provide their high quality feed, supplements, hoof care, vet care with dental care, and medicines for life. Some of our Drafts need long-term special care, like Arianna with lymphangitis. There is no cure for her condition, just management for a quality life. Ari needs her large leg washed and wrapped daily with ointments and cotton, vet wrap and tape. The costs add up quickly. Our seniors get arthritis and Cushings medicine daily and any other supplements to help them thrive pain free. Our Drafts are gentle enough for the Girl Scouts to earn their horse badge with. We had a really great time watching the young girls use their leadership skills and work hard toward their badge! Each horse is so grateful when they are saved, rehabbed with special care and love, then live a life of loving care and respect. This lead us into our next mission....

We are excited to announce that we have been approved for the program Connected Horse. It's an amazing therapy program. Studies done by UC Davis Medical Center and Stanford University revealed the healing powers of horses for those with a diagnosis of beginning stages of memory loss and the family members who will be their caregivers through this journey with them. Our Drafts receive so much one-on-one care during rehab. When they complete rehab, they still yearn for the attention and affection. They will now have the opportunity for quality one-on-one time with those who have had a diagnoses of memory loss. Stay tuned for more stories about this on our social media!

Horses in the mist! Here at 7200 altitude, we can have a foggy, misty morning. It usually blows off in a few hours and the sun shines with beautiful blue skies. But it stayed today.

Everyone got extra hay to stay warm in the wet and chilly temps, thanks to your donations!
We are so grateful for this community. We are also so grateful for all our volunteers. Especially as Paul is healing from shoulder surgery. He is doing great! Thank you for all the kind messages.

You can see longer videos of the horses in the mist in our stories! ♥️ Paul & Lynn

Let’s have a laugh together! Knowing we have Dunkin Kay & Zena the Diva, Paul is asking for your best punch line!

Thank you for being the best community! We’ve been through so much together. Paul & I are working on going live with pa t r e on. We’ll have much more behind the scenes & long videos that aren’t supported here. We are so excited! We will still have content here and connect with you here, but there will be much more on that platform. Stay tuned!

So grateful, ♥️ Paul & Lynn

I hope you enjoy a gentle scene with our Gentle Giants. Paul and I were out at the barn before sunrise to check on everyone. The snow started to gently fall last night. We gave extra hay and plugged in water troughs. Everyone was bright eyed and happy this morning. The snowfall was beautiful. And so very quiet.

Head over to our stories later tonight. I’ll be posting longer videos and stills of snowflakes landing on the Biggie Girls! I’m like a kid when I zoom in & see actual snow flakes!

We haven’t had much snow since beginning of December. Which has us worry for fire season. It is very normal to have snow in May, even the first few days of June, here in Colorado Springs. Our ranch is at 7200 altitude, about 35 minutes from the base of Pikes Peak. It is simply mountain living. Horses do very well in the snow as long as they have what they need. Lots of hay & water, shelter if they want it. You know ours rarely go into the shelter in the snow!

We also feed salt daily, which they need for the sodium and chloride, but it also encourages them to drink. We plug in our water troughs and they drink it down! Some like colder water, so we have both for them to choose from. The mustangs tend to go for the cold water with a hole in the ice! Winston & Gemma also love their ice water. But then they’ll go to the warm water. Thor & babies will take long drinks of warm water, but love a good ice drink for a sippy sip! Lily & Letta like both, but especially Letta loves Kay’s leftover chilled dunkin water! The Biggie Girls stick to their warm water during the day, but dunkin Kay prefers ice water for her soak at night!

Hope this brought a smile for your day. Sending Draft sized hugs to you all. ♥️ Paul & Lynn

Enjoy a few moments of two Biggie Girls enjoying life in sanctuary. On the left is Zena the Shire. On the right is Kay the Clydesdale. Also known as Dunkin Kay! And now that Zena has joined in, it’s the Double Dunkin Biggie Girls!

Hope this brought you a smile and a bit of peace. Because of so many requests, we will be updating our youtube channel with very long videos for you to have in the background on your tv / computer / ipad. Maybe do some yoga or some stretching!

What other long videos would you like to see? What natural sounds? There will be no music, just natural sounds.

Right now our youtube channel has older videos of our rehab of precious Draft horses when we started our sanctuary. There is a link in our bio of a very important rehab of Clio the Clydesdale. It’s just a few minutes. Please take a moment to watch it. It is what fueled us to continue fighting for our Draft horses. It is also what fueled our anger, to be honest.

I was a volunteer at the Humane Society of North Texas for many years. Specifically with the Draft horses. I couldn’t unsee the abuse and wounds, the starvation, their sad eyes. Paul & I knew we had to do something. We’ve endured excruciating heartache over & over again. But then we look at a scene like Kay & Zena, enjoying sunshine & a cool breeze, happy & healthy, pain free with medication, safe & loved. And it fills our hearts.
We come here to this community & we find our smiles.

Thank you all for being here. We love this community. ♥️ Paul & Lynn

Wait for it! What just happened?!!! Did you see that? We have TWO dunkers now!

We have many people still just finding out that we lost the most precious & magical Percheron, Belle. Please see the previous post, showing our hugging girl. We have a hay drive if you would like to donate $13 for a bale of hay in Belle’s honor for her friends. Dunkin Kay & Zena are enjoying their hay to the fullest!

Thank you for all the donations coming in! We are so grateful! We are reading through them all and will be responding to each of you personally. You sure know how to lovingly put salve on our hearts. The messages have been so beautiful from this incredible community. We have been flooded with love and found our smiles again. We have found our way back. Thank you! ♥️ Paul & Lynn

Friends. We unexpectedly lost Belle, our magical, fairy tale Percheron who gave hugs. Paul & I have been in the deepest grief along with our volunteers who loved Belle. And the woman who saved Belle . I’m so sorry we’ve been quiet. The day after, I lost my very dear Aunt June. She was the kindest, leaving the sweetest comments here. I’ve tried, but remained frozen. I’ve sat for hours in my grief, staring at Pikes Peak, loving on all the horses in silence. I still cannot believe it.

I need to tell Belle’s story because her life mattered. As tears roll, it has been so very painful to go through videos when my heart is aching. Going into the barn is difficult. Belle would hear voices in the barn, make her way in and give hugs. If you were mucking, she’d block the cart until you wrapped your arms around her, then she’d wrap her massive head around you. If anyone was scared of horses, we’d take them to Belle. Her sweetness calmed them. Her eyes looked into your soul. They said, it’s okay. I’m here.

I’ll be sharing the beautiful joys Belle brought into our lives. Like connecting us to Andy Scott, the world renowned sculpture who created The Kelpies in Scotland, and his lovely wife, Hanneke. They were here for the dedication of his Percheron sculpture, also named Belle. Also Norwood Development who commissioned Andy Scott & came to our sanctuary for the most beautiful photoshoot, with our Belle, for The Percheron community. Photos coming!

Could we have a hay donation in Belle’s honor? We want to bring goodness into the barn for her friends. Hay is $13 a bale when we purchase in bulk & pick up ourselves to avoid the insane $100 delivery fee & $1 per bale stack fee! We’re saving $200. Thank you, so very much, for any donation in memory of Belle. You can donate here or:

When that Colorado sun hits just right! But someone needs to tell Sir Lancelot Angus & Lady Guinevere Elizabeth about drinking at high altitude!!! We think they are preparing for
St. Paddy’s!

To not see white pastures right now is so unusual for us. The grass goes dormant until about April with lots of snow watering it for spring and summer. Except we have had no snow! We had a little snow the first week of December. Then only 2 other snows that the sun melted right away. The memes about Colorado skiing right now are hilarious! We are at 7200 altitude. It is 63 F / 17 C today!!!

We had everything out, cleaned & ready to go. The blade for the tractor to make paths around the ranch & clear the driveway, snow blower to get to our cars, sled to take out hay when the snow is too thick for machines, salt to prevent ice for safety on entryways, pallets of pellets for our pellet stove that has rarely been turned on. But we will tell you it has been a glorious break! Our hearts go out to our friends dealing with the pounding of snow upon snow, snow on ice, ice on snow, trying to get out to care for animals for hours every day & night! We’re usually right there with you. Coming in the house in total exhaustion & barely able to scoop soup into a bowl!

In the US, we set the clocks forward in one week, March 8! Yayy longer evenings! Thanks for your kindness & support always. I hope you enjoyed some Shire baby sweetness. We love this community! ♥️ Paul & Lynn

We knew it! We knew Lancelot & Guinevere were Shire Swifties! So are they Shwifties??

These babies have a birthday coming up! Lancelot was born April 2, 2023. Guinevere was born April 4, 2023. They will be 3 years old! You may have seen in our stories that at 2 years, 9 months, they measure 16.2 hands. Guinevere is 16.3 at the bum! They do grow b***y first! Drafts grow through 7 years & can continue filling out through 10-12 years. The average horse is done growing by age 4-5. Shires easily reach 18 hands - 6 feet at their withers, the base of their neck that flows into their back. Their dad is 18.2!

Sending you all Shire sized hugs for your day!

If you missed it live, here is our New Year’s Eve 2026 Which Nessie Are You? It’s just a fun tradition we started years ago after receiving gifts from family in Scotland. Then the collection began! (Thank you, Kirsty!) It was salve for losses we endured throughout the year. Our hearts take a pounding when we lose one of our beloved horses. Each time I think, I can’t do this any more. My heart hurts to a depth I can barely breathe. Going to the barn to care for everyone when I know one is gone is the absolute worst thing. We grieve deeply, but have to carry on. We have to pour our love into all the others. They need us. And then I know the answer every time. Now we have room for another. The Nessie game is a time to laugh and enjoy everyone. Laughter is so healing. It gives us a reset for rescue for the New Year!

Thank you, all of you, our incredible followers who make up this beautiful community, thank you for your love and support. We truly cannot do this heart work without you! You are providing the high quality hay & supplements, vet care, dental care, farrier care, cushioned bedding, medications, and morale for Paul & I to keep going! THANK YOU to all of you lovely people! ♥️ Paul & Lynn

Santa’s reindeer are getting ready! Sir Lancelot & Lady Guinevere wanted to play reindeer games while they wait for Christmas Eve!

Our dear volunteer, Teri, brought the fun wrapping paper to play with our reindeer! How do you think we did on this trend? Head over to our stories for the behind the scenes fun & Santa Thor!

Bringing you all some Christmas cheer! And tonight begins Hanukkah! ♥️ Paul & Lynn
