What happened to the Justice Bell?

Find out on Wednesday, October 21st at 6:30 pm in the Sturgeon House meeting room.

The Justice Bell was an integral part of the Women's Suffrage movement in the early 20th Century. It became nationally known, and then disappeared.

Our evening will begin with an introduction by Lori Morse-Dolan, who is the Justice Bell Foundation coordinator. We will then watch a 20 minute documentary film called "Finding Justice: The Untold Story of Women's Fight for the Vote".

Amanda Owen, author of the book The Justice Bell: Tracing the Journey of a Forgotten Symbol, will join attendees via Zoom for a Question & Answer session.

Following the program the Sturgeon House will remain open for refreshments and conversation until 8 pm.

Parking is available at the Fairview Methodist Church.

“Local Lore Cemetery Tour”
Discover Fairview’s History After Dark

The Fairview Area Historical Society (FAHS) invites the community to join representatives for the “Local Lore Cemetery Tour,” an unforgettable evening of history, mystery, and spine-chilling tales.

The tour will lead participants through a significant portion of Fairview Cemetery as knowledgeable guides share stories about some of the cemetery’s more fascinating residents and the unusual circumstances surrounding their final resting places. The FAHS has all the dirt on these historic burials.

Join us for a unique evening.
The LAST tour of the season is October 17th. Guests should meet at the Fairview Cemetery Chapel, where doors will open at 6:00 p.m. The walking tour will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m.
Admission: $15 per person
Payment: Cash or check to be paid upon arrival for the tour.

Participants should come prepared for an evening walk by wearing sturdy footwear suitable for uneven ground and bringing a flashlight. Parking is recommended along Maple Street.

Come experience Fairview’s history in a whole new way—where every stone has a story and every story has a past.

The family that plays together stays together!

Kristen, Joe, and Tori Byrd worked to together to make the first Local Lore Cemetery Tour a crowd pleaser.

As Kristen told historically based stories, the “Grim Reaper” and a “Spectral Child” acted as spiritual guides showing our guests where to go.

Together they made sure guests had a fun and safe experience.

Putting away the Fairview football display, I found a detail that had been missed.

Included in the box containing the “Golden Football”, which celebrated Super Bowl 50 in 2016, was a card from the National Football League.

It states:

The National Football League honors Fairview High School and it’s role in developing and supporting the career of Steve Potter who was part of Super Bowl history.
