Gardens That Give WNC

Gardens That Give WNC Gardens That Give Away Food No two gardens are alike and that is our strength. Each is community-specific.

Gardens That Give WNC is a group of volunteers, garden managers and other participants representing diverse models of community gardens in WNC that have one main thing in common: they grow food for donation. Our mission is to support each other’s success through the sharing of resources, experience and knowledge as well as to support the start up of other “Gardens That Give”. Though not all GTG do

all these things, among us we: provide education for all ages; advocate locally, regionally and nationally for food justice; provide food for the poorest of the poor, those with serious health issues or for their neighborhood; have gardens of all sizes; work with volunteers, accept & train interns; provide an opportunity for service; provide a place for students to exercise their passions and gifts; are a bridge for interfaith cooperation; teach; and get to know our neighbors. Though each garden is unique, all share a vision of seeing that everyone gets enough healthy food and that community is fostered in the process.

Garden Manager sought for the Cullowhee Community Garden! I (Adam Bigelow) am excited to transfer leadership of this Garden-Based Environmental Education Project and Garden for the Public Health on to a great candidate. Maybe it's you, or someone you know. Please share.

FYI, "Trainee and Work Against Applications" means that applications will be accepted from those without a 4-year degree in Health Education or Public Health are encouraged to apply. I encourage those with Horticulture and Environmental Science background to also apply

I came across this and thought it might be helpful to the GTG community. Thanks. Laura http://www.emalab.com/http:...

We hope you are holding up well – in every sense. We are humbled by the amount of support and outreach we have received the past few months. Much earlier this year, we announced that the annual Square Dance would take place this autumn. The Square Dance has been our cornerstone fundraiser and the “social event of our season” since our inception. We’ve made the difficult decision to cancel it this year.

We are saddened. More than just a source of income, the Square Dance is our opportunity each year to interact personally with hundreds of you and to spotlight our garden. While it can't replace the joyous sounds of music and people dancing or the wonderful conversation that takes place during a potluck meal, we still want to share some gifts from the garden with you. Everyone who donates to RCF through the end of August will be entered to win one of three gift baskets of handmade items sourced and inspired by the garden and lovingly prepared by our staff.

Consider this our summer “Not-a-Square-Dance” fundraising event. A successful fundraising drive now will help keep us growing food throughout the fall. We are in a position to continue the scaled up cultivation we initiated at the onset of COVID-19, and your funding will help us purchase additional plant starts, allow us to maintain appropriate PPE and sanitation for our staff and volunteers, and continue growing community solutions to hunger.

We'd be so grateful if you would donate the price of your 2020 tickets ($10/person, $25/family) or whatever amount you are inspired to give to help us continue our vital work. Thank you for your continued support. You are the backbone that keeps food growing and donating.

Our Story

Gardens That Give WNC is a network of donation gardens and food access support organizations working together to grow and share food with folks in our communities across Western North Carolina. Our mission is to support each other’s success through the sharing of resources, experience and knowledge, to create partnerships and to support the start up of other 'Gardens That Give' and food access organizations.

Together we: educate, advocate for food justice, provide fresh produce for those in greatest need, work with volunteers, accept & train interns, offer opportunities for service, and are a bridge for various faiths, politics, ethnicities, socio-economics and generations. It is our individual and collective goal that everyone have access to enough healthy food and that community is fostered in the process.
