Norristown Garden Club Welcome To The Norristown Garden Club page! Our club is a member of the National Garden Clubs, Inc. and The Garden Club Federation of PA. Mr. H.

On April 15, 1913, seven women met at the home of Miss Bertha Slingluff Harry on Swede Street and organized the Norristown Garden Club to promote interest in the culture of flowers by exchanging ideas, seeds, plants and bulbs. The officers were chosen and dues were fixed at twenty-five cents a year. On May 17, 1913, the following notice appeared under Mixed Locals of The Norristown Daily Herald, now The Times Herald: All flower lovers are invited to meet at the YMCA rooms this afternoon at 3 o’clock to learn the plan of the Garden Club. The first meeting to which all flower lovers were invited
adjourned with seventeen paid members. By the sixth year, private homes no longer could accommodate the increased membership. Severn Regar offered the use of the Regar Museum, DeKalb and Fornance Streets. Nine years later meetings were held in St. John’s Church House and later in the Ersine Tennis Club House, 1529 DeKalb Street. From 1966 through 1984 the club met in the auditorium of Strawbridge & Clothier, Plymouth Meeting Mall. Plymouth Township Building was our meeting place from 1985 to 1997. From the fall of 1997 to the spring of 1999, our meetings were held at the Reformed Church of the Ascension in Jeffersonville. The Norristown Garden Club has met at the Normandy Farms Estates in Blue Bell since 1999. Our club has had a fall luncheon meeting since 1984 and it has always been well attended.

Congratulations to the Outdoor Gardeners Club for a wonderful Flower Show titled Philadelphia 1776 and to its overall chair Tammy, who helped to judge NGC's show in September. In return, several of our members who are also judges assisted at this lovely show which was held at Cathedral Village. Additional kudos to Ginger and to Anita for entering the design category!

Some of the Blooms members did a fall cleanup at Montco S.A.A.C. The herb garden looks really healthy but those pesky morning glories can really take over a garden! The team beat the weeds into submission and replanted the pots for the fall season. The building is starting to look great with the new windows and even the unfinished front entrance looks so much better.

Thanks to Pam McA for a wonderful and creative resin workshop at the East Norriton pavilion. We learned how to pour resin to create a lovely cuff bracelet, a bookmark and an ornament. It was a real learning experience and a lot of fun!
Fingers crossed that when we unmold our creations, they look as good as the samples that Pam had!

The Design Workshop began the year with a Traditional Line design using sunflowers at Montgomery County - Norristown Library's temporary location where we were welcomed by beautiful fall pots that were recently done by some Blooms members. Barbara A and Barbara L did their usual fabulous job so everyone left with a lovely fall design on the first day of Autumn.

Congratulations to District I for a lovely (as always) flower show; Celebrating a Nation of Artists. Norristown GC was well represented with some lovely designs and, of course, a visit to Longwood Gardens is always a treat. Congratulations to Maria J with a much deserved Botanical Arts rosette! Congrats also goes out to Pat W with a Blue, Nancy A with a Yellow (And we're including Nancy H's sister Kate's 90+ just because!)
