Laundry Love: Messiah now operates out of two laundromats, doubling our outreach! On the 2nd Saturday of each month, Liz Kitzel leads a Care Team from 10-noon at Leo's Laundromat, located at 20210 Lorain Rd in Fairview Park. On the Last Thursday of each month, Care Team Leader Janice Snyder leads the mission at The Wash House, located at 15149 Lorain Ave, in Cleveland's West Park neighborhood from 6-8 pm. We are grateful for the support that allows us to host TWO of the 304+ Laundry Love locations serving across the country. Through our collective effort and impact, we are making sure every person is seen and served, and that each of our guests know LOVE is the reason we do what we do--because fresh and clean feels good on everyone! Love. Dignity. Detergent.

In celebration of our 100th Laundry Love event, we established a Little Free Library inside the Wash House laundromat. It's a chartered LFL #194268 located at 15149 Lorain Road in West Park. We steward an identical Little Free Library at Leo's Laundromat in Fairview Park to promote literacy in our neighborhoods.

Laundry Love #100 is in the books! We helped a lot of folks with their laundry and gave out $25 gift cards to Giant Eagle which our guests can use to purchase food or gasoline during the holiday season. Our Care Team got lots of hugs!

Eight years ago, three Messiah staff members read about a national program called Laundry Love in Thrivent Magazine. We agreed it was a wonderful, practical way to show God’s love to low-income people in neighborhoods served by Messiah Church and School. Our first Laundry Love event was held on a cold day in January 2017. We served about 20 people at a local laundromat, and spent 68 dollars on laundry.

Next Thursday, November 21 will be our 100th Laundry Love event! In that time we’ve paid to launder over 94 TONS of clothing and bedding for our neighbors-in-need. That’s 188,000 pounds, or 19,000 loads. We’ve listened to stories, made friends, prayed together, cried together, given hugs to those who haven’t been hugged in years, and we’ve restored hope to people who tell us they were feeling hopeless before our Messiah Care Team arrived to bless them with our listening ministry. That’s more than a mission, that’s mission ENGAGEMENT. Laundry Love isn’t a “service project”. It’s not something we do “to” people or “for” people. We do it with them. This is a small group ministry where we LEAVE the church building and become friends with our neighbors.

On Nov. 21 we will meet at The Wash House and Café, 15149 Lorain Avenue in West Park from 6-8 pm, and launder the clothes and bedding of over 80 individuals representing 40 households.

Tonight is Laundry Love event #99. One of our guests told us that she was going to come to the laundromat this morning but missed her shot and had to come tonight. She and her partner were thinking they would have to skip dinner to pay for their laundry ($20). She was happy Laundry Love stepped in so the couple could have clean laundry AND eat dinner. Laundry Love touches lives!!! God's work. Our hands.
