UPDATED RELEASE OF INFORMATION ON FHPD OFFICERS SHOT

On Saturday, May 17, at 9:44 p.m., Officers were dispatched to Potomac Drive in response to a report of a suspicious individual prowling around a nearby residence.

Upon arrival, Officers made contact with the individual and discovered it was a possible domestic situation. During the encounter, the individual opened fire, striking multiple Fairview Heights Officers.

Three Fairview Heights Police Officers were struck by gunfire.

One Officer was shot in the face and underwent emergency surgery. The Officer is in critical but stable condition.

A second Officer was shot in the arm and is being seen at a hospital for treatment. The bullet broke a bone.

A third Officer appeared to have also been shot in the back but the vest stopped it. This Officer was treated and released.

Two other Officers were treated at the hospital for injuries sustained fighting this suspect. Both were released.

The suspect is in custody and the gun was recovered. Illinois State Police are leading the investigation to ensure impartiality. There is no active threat to the community.

If it is your way, we ask for prayers for these Officers. They went on a call for service to help people and keep people safe. They ended up being shot and fighting for their lives for doing their job.

To Chief Bryan Doyle:
On behalf of my CUFF partner Bev Mattison (deceased) and myself Deb Baldwin, you are thanked for everything you did for our group. It was always an honor recognizing the Fairview Caseyville Township Fire Protection District and the firefighters being honored for their accomplishments. You know, Larry loved taking pictures for you and the department. I know he would be wishing you the very best too. From the bottom of our hearts again, thank you so much and the sincerest of congratulations!!

We would like to take a moment to announce the retirement of Fairview Fire Chief Bryan Doyle. Chief Doyle joined the Fairview Fire Department in October of 1983, marking his 41st year with our department as of this month. Chief Doyle held many ranks throughout his years of service. He served as a lieutenant and a captain before being hired as the district’s first Deputy Fire Chief in July of 1994. In October of 1997 Doyle was promoted to the rank of Assistant Chief and served until his promotion to Fire Chief in October of 2006. During his years as a Fairview Firefighter and Chief officer, he was also employed by the Illinois Fire Service Institute at the University of Illinois Champaign as a fire staff instructor. He was hired with IFSI in 2000 and will remain an instructor with the institute. Among all of the hats he wore, he is also a member of the Illinois Fire Chief’s Association and in 2015, served as president of the board. He will continue his service with the IFCA, serving on the funeral and legislative committees. Chief Doyle has worn many hats over the years and with that came an enormous amount of dedication. Chief Doyle will remain the active fire chief until November 30, 2024.

Chief, we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all your service and dedication to this wonderful community. We want to thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge to not only the Fairview Fire Department, but to firefighters all over the world. Your leadership has been an inspiration to all of the men and women you have served with. You have always known how to be, not only a great leader, but a wonderful friend to many. We cannot say thank you enough for the work you have put into this department and into the betterment of this community. Your dedication to this department and community will never be forgotten. We wish you the best of luck in retirement! We are certain you will not be a stranger!

THANK YOU CHIEF

-Your Fairview Firefighters
