☀️HEAT ADVISORY☀️

Heat index values as high as 104 expected.
IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat related illnesses to occur.

Please check on your elderly and disabled neighbors, especially during extreme weather or emergencies. A quick visit, phone call, or offer of assistance can make a huge difference in their safety and well-being.
Kindness saves lives!

Impact on Vulnerable Populations:
Individuals without cooling or adequate hydration: These individuals are particularly vulnerable to the effects of extreme heat.

Older adults: This group is at higher risk of heat-related illnesses.

Young children: Similar to older adults, young children are highly susceptible to heat's negative effects.

People with chronic health conditions: Existing health problems can be worsened by extreme heat.

Individuals receiving antipsychotic medications:These individuals are at increased risk of heat stroke and other heat-related issues.

Those living in crowded housing with limited access to air conditioning: These individuals may face added risks due to poor air circulation and higher temperatures within buildings.
Individuals working outdoors: Physical exertion in high heat increases the risk of heat-related illness.

People with language barriers:Understanding and responding to heat alerts may be more difficult for those with language barriers.

Safety Recommendations for Vulnerable Adults and Others:
Stay in air-conditioned environments: If possible, spend time in air-conditioned places like cooling centers, libraries, R-centers, or shopping malls.

Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of fluids, aiming for 2-4 glasses of water per hour, even if not thirsty. Avoid dehydrating beverages like sugary drinks, alcohol, and caffeine.

Limit sun exposure: Avoid direct sun exposure and reschedule outdoor activities to cooler times like the early morning or evening.
Wear appropriate clothing: Wear loose, lightweight, light-colored clothing.

Check on others: Check on vulnerable neighbors and relatives, especially those without air conditioning.

Be aware of heat illness symptoms: Be familiar with the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Call 911 immediately if someone shows signs of heat stroke.
