Good news — Scouts still play Spoons! 🥄

A table full of Scouts was laughing, diving for spoons, and having a great time — no screens required.

Put a “YES” in the comments if you played Spoons growing up (or still do)! 😄

The January Massawepie Arctic Challenge ❄️

Over the three-day weekend our Scouts headed north for the Arctic Challenge at Massawepie Scout Camps. With the long weekend we were able to stay three nights, which gave everyone plenty of time to experience real Adirondack winter camping.

The cabin was heated by a wood stove, which made temperature control… an adventure. Let’s just say the first night felt more like a sauna than the Arctic!

One highlight was heading out onto Massawepie Lake, where the ice measured about 10 inches thick. The Scouts hiked all the way across the frozen lake — and back — multiple times.

We also visited The Wild Center, where the live porcupine was a big hit. The most entertaining moment might have been watching a very lonely wood duck repeatedly swim over to “talk” to a photo of another duck.

Other adventures included ice fishing on Tupper Lake, cross-country skiing, and winter hikes. Our older Scouts even tackled an early morning climb of Ampersand Mountain.

Cold weather, lots of snow, and plenty of laughter — exactly the kind of challenge that brings out the best in our Scouts. 🏔️🧊🥾

Monday’s Court of Awards was a big one for so many reasons—new youth leadership stepping up, a huge number of merit badges earned, and special honors recognized. It was also the very first Court of Awards for many of our newest Scouts who just joined last month 👏

These ceremonies are such a powerful reminder of what grit, determination, and teamwork can accomplish—and they always leave everyone a little more inspired by what’s possible.

Can’t wait for the next adventure!

Another great winter adventure for the troop! ❄️

In February, we stayed in the Winter Lodge at Camp Cutler and made a day trip to hit the slopes at Swain Resort. For many of the Scouts it was their first time skiing or snowboarding — which meant some tough runs, a few wipeouts, and a lot of determination. Everyone stuck with it and did great. In fact, several Scouts wanted to keep skiing even longer when it was time to head out!

The Scouts handled dinner themselves and cooked up some excellent burgers — always impressive to see them plan the meal, cook it, and clean up afterward.

As usual, the evening brought plenty of card games and a new bedtime game that had the whole lodge cracking up: a Scout version of telephone. Let’s just say the laughter carried well past lights out.

Great to see Scouts trying new (and difficult!!!) things and making the kind of memories that keep them talking about the trip all the way home. ⛷️🏂🃏

A different kind of campout for Troop 208 this March! 🏕️🌆

Instead of heading for the woods, we packed our bags for a city exploration adventure in Toronto — and it turned out to be a fantastic change of pace. The Scouts took in some iconic sights like the CN Tower and the aquarium, explored the city on foot, and even made an important stop at a local grocery store to sample some Canadian chocolate. 🇨🇦🍫

The weather couldn’t have worked out better. It seemed to rain whenever we were inside, but every time we headed out to explore, the skies cleared and it was beautiful.

As always, the Scouts ran the show when it came to meals. They planned the menu, did the shopping, cooked everything themselves, and handled all the cleanup. One highlight: an amazing breakfast of French toast with real maple syrup — because… CANADA! 🥞🍁

There were plenty of card games, lots of laughs, and a great reminder that adventure can happen anywhere — even in the middle of a big city.
