👉🏼WHAT BROUGHT ME TO MWB
“I was looking for art classes and saw one for making a wire and jade bonsai tree”
👉🏼MY FAVORITE MEMORY AT MWB
“Truly, this is difficult because there are many! One memory that stands out is that I was working on a clay piece and we quickly discovered that I’m not capable of creating small clay projects. Another time is when I am working on an art project and nothing big had happened, but I had this feeling of being completely at ease and among like-minded people. The first day that I volunteered, Mary had shown me around the place and what needed to be done and it was the best first day I have ever had.”
👉🏼WHY MWB IS IMPORTANT TO ME
"When I was little, I wanted to be an artist when I grew up. I have always loved art and appreciate someone's hard work and thought process when seeing their creation. After graduating high school, I didn't create anymore. The closest I would do was decorate for holidays and when I moved into my apartment and then to my home, I decorated there too. I would paint rarely and learned to knit a little bit but that wasn't enough. Earlier this year, I vowed that I would become more creative again - I needed to work with my hands. I had gone to a different art studio and did a couple of projects and it was lovely, but it was missing something. I went back online and saw My World Better and looked at the classes that was happening and the wire bonsai tree class looked fun and so I signed up for both me and my husband. When we went in, it felt lovely. Rachel taught us how to make the trees and we had a great time! The following week we went to Pip's Paint Your Partner night and it was a lot of fun and as we were leaving, I walked through the front of the store again, and knew that I needed to be there. I had met Mary only for a moment the week prior, but I went to her and told her that if she was ever hiring that I would love to work there. She had explained that she's the only employee who worked there and that the teachers helped her run the store. I had "jokingly" said that I would volunteer. From that point on, I would bring up working there every so often. I had purchased the gold membership and I was there all the time. We're talking 3-6 days a week and once I managed 7 days straight. During this time, I was creating something new and learning what my limitations were and how to surpass them. It is a space where I feel that I can truly be myself and create without the burden of everyday life getting in the way. I also started to create more at home and I have been teaching myself watercolor painting in addition to going to the MWB classes. I've made new friends there and enjoy talking to all of them and seeing their talents. Simply put, I love being there and it's helped me grow artistically and I want everyone to be able to experience it as well.”
