On this day in 1753, George Washington was raised to the degree of Master Mason. Washington began his Masonic journey by paying two pounds and three shillings in 1752 to join the Lodge at Fredericksburg, Virginia. He received his Entered Apprentice degree on November 4, 1752, and advanced to the Fellowcraft degree just four months later.
