Congratulations Firefighters Brogan Troy and Jason Smart on completing their 3 year apprenticeship program. Brogan and Jason passed their journeyman test and completed apprenticeship training of over 6000 hours. They join their union brothers as journeyman firefighters recognized by the US department of labor, The IAFF/IAFC and the state of West Virginia.

In 2025, the Professional Fire Fighters of West Virginia (PFFWV) partnered with WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s through the Fill the Helmet initiative and helped raise money for the annual WVU Day of Giving. At the 2026 PFFWV State Convention in Parkersburg, Fairmont Firefighters IAFF Local 318 was awarded the GOAT trophy for raising the most money of any paid fire department in the state of WV. In ONE DAY, we nearly doubled the amount of money we raised in 2025 and raised more money than any other professional department collected for the entire 2025 year, a truly remarkable accomplishment! None of this would be possible without the help and generosity of the great citizens of Fairmont. This trophy belongs to each and every one you (the community) as much as it does to IAFF Local 318 and we can’t thank you enough. Fairmont may not be the largest city in the state, however, we are showing everyone statewide that we have the most generous and altruistic community and why we are known as The Friendly City. Thanks again to everyone who has helped to make our annual Fill the Helmet drive for WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s a success!

FAIRMONT!!! Even with budgets being as tight as ever, we are truly amazed by your generosity!!! We cannot thank Everyone enough for the donations during our 2026 “Helmet” Drive. Because of your kindness we were able to raise $9000 dollars for the WVU medicine Golisano Childrens hospital. We’d like to say sorry for making a little extra traffic. To us it’s a small price to pay for the kids. Special thank you to Erin from WVU Medicine, City of Fairmont for permitting our drive, Chief Starn for allowing us to use the Truck, Adams Street Wesbanco for counting all the donations and Papa John’s for providing us lunch. And of course it wouldn’t have been possible without all the local 318 brothers who gave up their day and braved the cold and rain! Again THANK YOU FRIENDLY CITY!!!!
