Today was both Scout Sunday at First Presbyterian and it was also the anniversary of Scouting in America. Troop 120 attended the morning service, then shared in a soup luncheon.

Troop 120 continues its dominance over the Dutch oven, winning once again for best side dish. Smoked cream cheese with raspberry topping, smoked in a Dutch oven. Also pictured is our fearless Scoutmaster cooking over the ever popular black stone. What a great weekend of cooking and camping, followed by a flag retirement ceremony at the council fire.

Today, we had our troop meeting at Camp Mountaineer’s lake. Monica and Chase (our troop lifeguards) taught the scouts the parts of a row boat and a canoe, different types of rescues, and swimming strokes. We had one scout pass their swim test today!

What a weekend! Klondike Derby 2025. Frost points with -1° tent camping? ✅ First place Dutch oven dessert contest? ✅ Second place for the Phoenix patrol in the derby? ✅ Cooking eggs in the bathroom because the propane was too cold to light outside????✅ Smiles and fun all around? ✅✅✅

This was not the coldest we have camped, but it was the first time under 0° for some of us. It’s a lot of hard work but this will be a memorable trip for all! 🥶❄️ Thank you to all the volunteers who make this possible for the scouts!

Swearing-in of the new Patrol Leaders Council 2025. Scouting America is a youth-led organization. The Troop held an election, after campaign speeches and interviews, and these scouts were chosen to lead the troop and 3 patrols through an amazing 2025 season. This is the first coed PLC in the history of Troop 120!

We had a Dutch oven cooking contest with other units at our campout. With about 15 participants, troop 120 swept the podium. We each won a new Dutch oven for the unit!

As you may have guessed from our new name, Troop 120 is now coed. This change is part of a trial occurring in some troops all across the country! Our mission is the same, our goals are the same, but we will be operating together as one troop for the next 12 months.

We can now serve more youth and more families by combing our leadership and our resources. We are all very excited and can't wait for our first official outing as one troop.

A beautiful camping weekend was not wasted here! Several from our boys troop were inducted into the Order of the Arrow. Camping, trail work, cleaning, construction and meal prep service rounded out the days.

Camping! It is no secret that Scouts love to camp. Not only do we learn useful outdoor and survival skills, we also connect with nature, soak in some much-needed vitamin D, unplug from our usual lives for a little while, and we make lasting friendship bonds. Camping is undoubtedly our favorite activity in troop 120 and we are already planning our fall adventures!who wants to join us??
