FaithLink Post - Called to Serve: How These Offices Work Together

Our Called to Serve series circles back to where the pattern began, in Acts 6. The apostles gave themselves to prayer and the Word, godly men were set apart to serve, and the whole church had a part. No one's work was holier than another's. Each freed the other to do what God had called them to do.

"And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly." — Acts 6:7

Senior pastor, assistant pastors, and deacons are called to unity under Christ, our Chief Shepherd. And the whole church body has a part too. This week, pray for your leaders by name and ask the Lord where He would have you serve.

FaithLink Post - Called to Serve: Assistant Pastors

Scripture gives us no single verse defining the office of assistant pastor the way it does the senior pastor or deacon. Instead, God gives us lives: Aaron and Hur, who held up Moses' tired hands in battle, and Joshua, who served quietly beside Moses for forty years before ever leading Israel himself.

"But Moses' hands were heavy... and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun." — Exodus 17:12

One picture shows us a sustaining work. The other shows us being shaped. Together, they're a beautiful picture of what it means to serve faithfully in this supporting role.
