A new chapter of leadership begins for our union in March!

Congratulations to Vice President Roxanne Brown who has been elected as our next international president and will be sworn in on March 1, 2026.

“I am beyond humbled and honored to serve as the USW’s next president,” said Brown. “Together, we will build an economy that works for all of us, a system that rewards workers rather than corporations, and a bright future for generations to come.”

Amber Miller, who has led our Rapid Response network for the past six years, was elected to Brown’s former role as International Vice President at Large.

We’re also happy to celebrate those reelected to new four-year terms: Myles Sullivan as secretary-treasurer; Emil Ramirez as vice president (administration); Kevin Mapp as vice president (human affairs); Marty Warren as national director for Canada; and Luis Mendoza as vice president, as well as the directors for each of the union’s twelve districts.

On this day in 1935, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the National Labor Relations Act into law, protecting the rights of private sector workers to form unions, bargain collectively, and take collective action. Also known as the Wagner Act, it laid the foundation for modern labor law and created the National Labor Relations Board to enforce these rights.

Now, as these basic rights are under attack, we cannot go back in time ✊. We must fight to protect these hard-won protections that all workers need for decades to come.

On this day in labor history, President Franklin Roosevelt signed the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 into law — a landmark victory for working people. It established:

✅ The first federal minimum wage
✅ The 40-hour workweek
✅ Protections against child labor
✅ Standards for overtime pay

These hard-fought gains set the foundation for modern workplace protections — and they didn’t happen by accident. They happened because workers organized and demanded better.
