While a positive step forward, Florida’s new law could be strengthened by being more inclusive, covering private rentals as well as public housing.

Confinement is not conservation. Very disappointedhttps://www.facebook.com/share/15DgA6E1NT/

We are sadly hearing reports that Keto the orca is very ill.

He was born in captivity in 1995 and has lived at all four US SeaWorld parks: San Diego, San Antonio, Orlando and the now-defunct SeaWorld Ohio. He struggled with dominance against other male orcas with whom he was confined.

In 2006, he was shipped off to Loro Parque in Tenerife, Spain where he remains to this day, as part of a "breeding loan," but oddly, the only other female orcas there at that time were both his relatives: his half-sister, Skyla, and his niece, Kohana (both now deceased).

He has sired 3 calves, 2 of whom have since passed away.

On December 24, 2009, Keto killed one of his trainers, Alexis Martinez, during a show rehearsal, pulling him underwater, exactly two months before Tilikum killed Dawn Brancheau at SeaWorld Orlando.

Keto's story is not atypical. Orcas are highly intelligent, complex, social beings. They simply cannot thrive in a concrete tank. They attack trainers and tankmates alike, out of frustration or other stressors. They have notably shortened life spans in captivity.

Our hearts are heavy as we learn about the loss of K9 Titan, who was shot multiple times by a fleeing suspect in Georgia.

Our thoughts are with his handler, Blaize Henderson, the agency, and the entire community during this incredibly difficult time.

K9 Titan’s bravery and dedication will never be forgotten.

We send our deepest gratitude for his service and prayers for Henderson’s full recovery. 🙏

The US Animal Law Center is pleased to announce that we will be starting a pilot project regarding toxic chemicals that affect animals. We already work in this industry and have made great networking connections that will help move this project along. If you have any questions or if you have had an animal that has been affected by chemical toxicity please feel free to reach out by email or by text.
