Remember Pumpkin? the paralyzed kitten? we thought you'd like to have an update on his progress since we first posted him as a kitten.
He's grown up now, but unfortunately despite regular accupuncture visits he did not regain mobility in his back legs. He has a lot of reflex and moves the tail and legs quite a bit but it's not brain connected.
Despite this, he's a very happy boy. Scooting around he is fast and agile. Of course a cat like this requires special care, they don't urinate on their own and have to be expressed several times a day. He doesn't use a litterbox, but with proper diet, he's having regular, firm stools that don't soil him or the surrounding.
He still visits his veterinarian monthly for additional treatment, but the prognosis is poor with regard to any change in his status.
Other than that, he's healthy and full of energy, definitely a life worth saving!

These two best buds have really undergone a transformation at the shelter. Overweight and unhealthy looking they are now svelt and sleek but what is so endearing is how much they care about each other. Brownie the male is adventurous, Lady is more sedate, but at feeding time, they are both at the same bowl.
We are looking for a special home for the two cats together. We will not separate them and they are such especially nice cats, clean, well mannered and healthy. Whoever adopts them will enjoy them for a lifetime.

Our dear little Pearl, the kitten who was found with a stump for a back leg, was adopted yesterday. This has been a long time coming and although she was happy in her shelter home, the opportunity to be cared for by someone who loves and cherishes her wasn't to be passed up.
You have to be pretty committed to want to adopt Pearl, she's very shy, won't come to you, isn't particular friendly, but underneath there is the sparkle of hope that she just might emerge from her shell one day and be a different kind of cat. We've all seen these transitions occur.
She doesn't walk well, never really got used to having 3 legs, especially having lost the back leg, she scoots around quite a bit, but she can still climb. She tolerates and even likes some cats whereas others she dominates and even rejects. For a shy cat she has a strong personality, but we're guessing she must have been born to a feral, stray mother. This behavior was passed down and never quite left her.
Anyway, Hanna came and met Pearl and despite the cool reception, decided to give it a whirl and take her home. I'll be visiting them in a few weeks to see how things are progressing.

Today we remember the life of our dear sweet Sheila dog who came to us years ago a very shy, unsocialized dog who would run away anytime a person she didn't know approached her. She was a motherly companion for all new dogs and enjoyed a quiet life at the sanctuary. She wasn't adopted for many years because of her temperment, but one day the perfect match came along and Sheila entered a new phase of her life. Adopted with a family and another dog, she was nurtured and loved until she passed some years later. In loving memory.
