Standing Room Only - Toastmasters

Standing Room Only - Toastmasters Standing Room Only began in 1962. Meetings are: First and Third Thursday of the Month, 7 to 8:30 p.m. We are an open club and visitors are welcome.

Fairfield Fire Station #2, 6540 Dixie Hwy, Fairfield, Ohio. The environment in a Toastmasters club is friendly and supportive. Everyone at a Toastmasters meeting feels welcome and valued - from complete beginners to advanced speakers. In a club meeting, you practice giving prepared speeches as well as brief impromptu presentations, known as Table Topics. There is no rush and no pressure: The Toastmasters program allows you to progress at your own pace.

SRO may be meeting remotely right now, but we remember our friends at City of Fairfield Fire Department St. 32. We dropped off some goodies from Jungle Jim's International Market Fairfield last week.

I had a professor at Miami that made a mark on the board everytime someone said ah, um or any filler word. It was nerve wracking, but quite useful to realize how often we use those words. As how many of us become annoyed with a speaker that repeatedly uses filler roles? That's where the "Ah-counter" role comes in. That person keeps a tally. It's not on a board in front of everyone, but they report during the role reports how many that they caught.
Remember silence is okay. Stop, take a breath and continue.

Toastmaster - this is one of the scariest roles for a new member, but it really isn't scary! You can sign up for it when you are ready. In general, the Toastmaster role is to act as the meeting’s genial host, introducing participants and making sure everything runs to time.
The main responsibilities of the Toastmaster are:
To give an introduction which sets the tone for the meeting
To explain the structure of a typical meeting for the benefit of guests and new members
To give short introductions for each of the main speakers and link between the various meeting segments
