September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month!

While cancer is relatively rare in children, it is still the leading cause of death for children and adolescents. However, the good news is that the 5 year survival rate is improving over time! In the 1970's the 5 year survival rate was between 58-68%, while today that rate is between 83-86%!

That's great news, but still there is more work to do, and still FCCF receives requests for assistance every week. Your awareness of the battle these children and their families go through is essential, it brings hope and helps support them in so many ways. Your generosity and care makes a difference for these children and their parents, and our hope is that you'll continue making that difference by raising awareness of the need and bringing people to our cause!

To help families prepare for the school year, FCCF has once again sponsored a Back to School Event for children being treated for cancer at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. In all, 24 children benefitted from this event, receiving school supplies and a gift card to help them get a fresh start on the new year.

We thank a generous donor who helped enable FCCF to sponsor this event, and the staff at NBI, especially Tara and Dina, for helping to make this event a success!

We wish these children, and all who are returning to school, a great and successful school year!

💛Meet Vivianna 💛
another of our families, a courageous 21-year-old mother

In February 2025, while pregnant with her daughter, Vivianna was diagnosed with T-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Now, as she cares for her 2-year-old little girl, she is also navigating intensive treatment, serious health restrictions, and the daily realities of being immunocompromised.

Because of her treatment needs, Vivianna is unable to work. She depends on support from extended family and a small SSI check, but the financial strain remains overwhelming. Her medical needs are complex, and the challenges her family faces extend far beyond the hospital.

Miles4Smiles is asking our community to rally around Vivianna. Any support, whether through a donation, sharing this post, or keeping her family in your thoughts can make a meaningful difference as she focuses on healing and being there for her daughter.

Together, we can help bring hope and relief to Vivianna and her little one. 💛

💛 Meet Sajda 💛
At just 18 months old, Sajda's world- and her family's- changed forever.

In January, Sajda was diagnosed with T-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Her treatment is expected to last 2½ years, a long journey filled with hospital visits, medications, and unimaginable challenges for such a young child.

Sajda lives with her parents and her three older siblings. Her mother shared that when they received the diagnosis, it felt as though life simply stopped. In an instant, everything changed.

While they focus on giving Sajda the care she needs, they are also doing everything they can to provide stability for their other three children. With Dad now the family's only source of income, the financial strain has become overwhelming. Between mounting medical appointments, transportation costs, and everyday household expenses, the burden continues to grow.

Through Miles4Smiles, this family will receive assistance with rent, utility bills, transportation expenses, and other essential needs, allowing them to focus on what matters most: helping Sajda heal.
Every mile ridden, every donation made, and every act of generosity helps bring hope to the 20 FCCF families.

Together, we can remind them they are not walking this journey alone.

At 20 years old, Aldair has been courageously battling Rhabdomyosarcoma since January 2024. Today, his treatment is focused on comfort and quality of life.

For more than three years, his mother has devoted herself to caring for him through countless appointments, treatments, and hospital stays, often at the expense of her ability to work. The financial strain on their family has been overwhelming.
