Important Update for Pilots Flying into Fairfield / West Desert Airpark (UT9)
The updated Chart Supplement now includes a new noise abatement note for West Desert Airpark:
“Noise: Avoid low overflight of residential areas.”
As many know, the airpark continues to face challenges with the town, and how we operate matters. We’re asking all pilots to help us protect the future of the airport by being intentional with noise-sensitive operations.
Please help by:
• No straight-in approaches to Runway 17 unless required for safety
• Fly an early crosswind departure on Runway 35 when safe and practical
• Keep a tighter base-to-final for Runway 17 when able.
• Limit touch-and-go operations.
• Avoid low overflight of residential areas.
• Follow standard traffic patterns unless safety dictates otherwise.
• Runway 17 remains preferred during calm winds per the Chart Supplement.
West Desert Airpark was built to support aviation, flight training, and economic opportunity in rural Utah. We want to continue being a positive part of this community while preserving access for current and future pilots.
Thank you to everyone for helping us operate responsibly and keeping aviation alive in Fairfield.
